014 <br />Sales Tax Distribution Update — County Manager is working with Finance to get numbers; a <br />very complicated matter. At this time it looks like the County will get around $180,000; not sure what <br />the City and Town will get at this time but feels it will be positive. <br />Wicker Center/Board of Education Plans — The Wicker School site includes 17+ acres. Price <br />has not be negotiated at this time for the property from Brick Capital. 750-1,000 students are proposed <br />for this site. Board of Education (BOE) is hoping for a completion date of August 2018. The County is <br />trying to schedule a joint meeting with the BOE but a definite date has not been schedule at this time. <br />Broadband Accessibility — Fiber is currently in the Industrial Park. Looking at running fiber to <br />the Airport because it is a City -County facility. Developing an RFP. Trying to get broadband in the City - <br />County areas that do not currently have service. <br />Leachate from Coal Ash Landfill — City issued Charah a permit (from wastewater side). The <br />permit outlines rules and regulations that must be followed; same as any other business and/or <br />industry. The City will monitor Charah to make sure they follow what other business/industries must do. <br />The Jt. Environmental Affairs Board recently met and toured the waste water treatment facility. The <br />City feels leachate can be treated with no problems. <br />Sewer Extension to the Industrial Park and Airport — Plan needs to be implemented. Will not <br />run sewer at this time (Industrial Park) until needed. Looking at grants to assist with running it to the <br />Airport. Will be a $2-4 million project for extension to the Industrial Park and Airport. <br />Land Use Plan/UDO — Working on RFP and a plan. The Plan needs to direct where we want <br />growth. <br />Communication (Messaging) — Concerned about how we communicate with the public and get <br />messages out. People are not subscribing to the paper. Many are getting news from social media <br />sources and the internet. It was agreed that both the City and County websites need to be worked on. <br />Economic Development/SAGA — Looking at 9 prospective businesses to locate to the area at <br />this time. Two major expansions in the works. They are also working with Raleigh brokers on Lee <br />County sites. Good group working together at SAGA; things are looking up. <br />Sports Complex Update — Site selection study recently approved by the City and County. <br />Looking at 3-4 sites in the County. A private land donation is also being looked at. Study will be <br />completed in the next 4-6 weeks. Continues to be a public-private project. <br />Other Business — City is working on a Sister- City Project with China. <br />It was agreed to hold the next Interlocal Sub -Committee meeting on Monday, January 11, 2016 <br />at the Buggy Factory with the City hosting. <br />The meeting adjourned at 1:45 p.m. <br />ATTEST: <br />Gaynell M.
