B. <br />Wicker School site; general maintenance; increase wages for part time <br />maids and janitors; purchase additional cafeteria equipment; and extend <br />vehicle parking area at Central High School. The Board discussed <br />the various items making up the request with Superintendent Brinson at <br />length and took the matter under advisement. <br />Mr. Bob Upchurch of the Community Planning Division of the N. C. <br />Department of Local Affairs appeared before the Board and reviewed the <br />County Planning Board's activities in the field of zoning and what the <br />procedure would be to develop and adopt a county zoning ordinance if <br />the Board favored such a project. <br />Dr. Ben Brooks, Superintendent of the Lee County Board of Educa- <br />tion appeared before the Board and stated the Lee County Board of Educa- <br />tion was agreeable to transfer title to the New Hope School site to <br />the County for $10,000.00 which funds would be used for captital outlay <br />purposes. Dr. Brooks also stated the County School Administrative Unit <br />would operate its schools within its budget appropriation and did not <br />intend to request additional funds. <br />The Board discussed securing personnel to transfer the Civil <br />Defense hospital supplies. Upon motion of Commissioner Perry White, <br />seconded by Commissioner J. Eugene Rogers, it was resolved to appropriate <br />$200.00 from the unappropriated surplus in the General Fund to the <br />Maintenance Fund for the purpose of providing labor and equipment to <br />transfer the Civil Defense hospital supplies to the County building at <br />the corner of Hillcrest Drive and Carthage Street. Upon a roll call vote, <br />Messrs. Cooper, White, Rogers, G. Wicker and F. Wicker voted for the <br />motion and no one voted against it. <br />Sheriff D. F. Holder appeared before the Board and discussed the <br />request to be forwarded to the Triangle Region Law and Order Committee <br />which included an addition to the jail, equipment, and two deputies for <br />the Cape Fear Township area. After review and discussion, Commissioner <br />J. Eugene Rogers moved the request be approved and the Sheriff be <br />authorized to submit it to the Regional Board for approval. Commissioner <br />Perry White seconded the motion and upon a vote, it was unanimously <br />adopted. <br />The letter from Sanford City Manager relative to the proposed <br />agreement on utility and sewer lines was reviewed. The County Attorney <br />was authorized to redraft the agreement in accordance with the Board's <br />suggestions and resubmit to the City for consideration. <br />The Chairman reminded the members of their invitation to attend <br />the annual banquet of the Sanford Junior Chamber of Commerce. <br />The Board authorized Commissioner Perry White to attend a one day <br />training session for local government officials at the Holiday Airport <br />Inn in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 27, 1971. <br />The Board authorized Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker to attend a <br />training session for local government official on the merging of City <br />and County governments at Jacksonville, Florida. <br />There being no further business to come before the session it was <br />adjourned sine die. <br />Franklin D.
