0 60 BOOK i P'I'sG 506 (ED MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA Monday, February 1, 1971 The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Lee County, North Carolina, convened on Monday, February 1, 1971, in the Commissioners Room of the County Office Building at the corner of Steele and Wicker Streets in the City of Sanford. Those present were Commissioners William H. Cooper, J. Eugene Rogers, Perry White, Gordon A.. Wicker and Franklin D. Wicker. None of the Commissioners was missing. Chairman Franklin D. Wicker presided and the following business was transacted: The Chairman presented data on cost sharing on the improvement of the Upper Little River watershed for the information of the Commissioners. The written report of the Chairman of the County Agricultural Extension Service was distributed to the Commissioners. The written report of the Tax Collector was distributed to the Comlri- issioners and discussed. The Chairman reported a letter of thanks had been received from the Sandhills Area Development Committee for the County's participation in their pro- gram. The Chairman reported the terms of Mrs. John Maxwell and Dr. John Dotterer on the Board of Trustees had expired. Commissioner William H. Cooper moved that Mrs. John Maxwell and Dr. John E. Dotterer be appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Lee County Library for the terms prescribed by law. Commiss- ioner Rogers seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. Commissioner William H. Cooper moved the adoption of the following resolution with respect to the roads near Jonesboro Middle School. WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Lee, has investigated the condition of the above described road which is now a part of the system of roads main- tained by the State Highway Commission, and which is indicated in red on the attached map; and WHEREAS, after careful consideration of the services rendered by said road and the traffic demands of said county, it is deemed necessary that said road be improved in order to better serve the interests of the people of this county. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved, and the Board of County Commissioners hereby approved and request that the State Highway Commission make the following improvements in the above described road: paved Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. There was a discussion about the proposal for a sales tax for counties but no formal action was taken.
