nb~ <br />Mrs, Webb McCracken spoke on behalf of the League of <br />Women Voters. The League of Women Voters position was contained in a state- <br />ment as follows: <br />"The League of Women Voters through its National Study <br />of Human Resources is concerned with housing. Last year in a local study on <br />this topic we learned that 40% of the housing in Lee County was substandard. <br />It is with this informational background and with the Statement of <br />the National Human Resources Position that the Lee County League of Women <br />Voters urges the Lee County Commissioners to aid in any way possible to see <br />that all of the citizens of Lee County have access to safe and sanitary (standard) <br />housing. " <br />Mrs. R. B. Guthrie, Mr, Isiah Rieves, Mrs, Rachel Boykin, <br />Reverend Atkins, Mr. Tom Haislip and Mr. Hugh Talley, all spoke on behalf <br />of the Housing Authority. Mr. Roy Utley of the Sanford Housing Authority spoke <br />on the operation of the Sanford Housing Authority and Mr. Bostick of the Architect <br />ural firm assisting said agency both spoke on the operations of the Housing <br />Authorities. A total of 23 people were in attendance at the public hearing. Having <br />given full opportunity to everyone present, the Commissioners declared the <br />public hearing at an end and took the matter under advisement and returned to <br />their meeting room in the County office building, <br />Mr. J. Chandler Eakes, Register of Deeds, appeared before the <br />Board and asked the approval of the employment of Miss Patricia Holder to fill <br />the resignation of Mrs. Betty C. Fasick, Upon motion of Commissioner Cooper, <br />duly seconded and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED to authorize the <br />employment of Miss Patricia Holder as a Typist I, in Grade 51, Step I, <br />Mr. J. Chandler Eakes invited the Commissioners to his office on <br />March 17 at 7 oc'lock p. m. , for a review of the operations of that office. <br />Commissioner Gordon Wicker moved that the boundaries of the <br />Sanford Fire Department be amended to read as follows: <br />"West Sanford Fire District <br />Lee County, North-Carolina <br />Beginning at a point (#1) on Road #1400 at Deep River; thence proceeding in an <br />easterly and southerly direction along Deep River to a point (#2) at Big Buffaloe <br />Creek, thence in a southwesterly direction to a point (#3) on Road #1403 at Big <br />Buffaloe Creek, thence in a southeasterly direction to a point (#4) on U. S. <br />Highway #421, 1, 6 miles southeast of its intersection with Road #1325; thence in <br />a southwesterly direction to a point (#5) on Road #1325, 1, 6 miles southeast of <br />its intersection with U. S. Highway #.421, thence .in a northwesterly direction <br />along Road #1325 and U. S. Highway-#421 including property 500 feet west of <br />these roads-to a point (#6) at Deep River, thence in a northeasterly direction <br />along Deep River to the-point of Beginning, " <br />Commissioner J.
