BOOK 7 PACE 528 <br />Chairman gave a report on the progress being made about a <br />Countywide Recreation System but no formal action was taken at this meeting. <br />Commissioner Perry White moved that the following ordinance <br />be introduced and be given its first reading before the Board and that the legal <br />procedures be instituted in order to have the same adopted as the ordinance <br />regulating the method of dispensing motor fuel to the public in Lee County. The <br />ordinance is as follows: <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners for <br />Lee County recognize that motor fuels such as gasoline and <br />diesel fuel are highly combustible liquids; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners <br />for Lee County has determined that the dispensing of motor <br />fuels to the public without attendants or human supervision <br />constitutes a haiard to the health and safety of the public; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by <br />the Board of Commissioners for Lee County as follows: <br />1. All motor fuel dispensing devices in Lee <br />County shall have at least 6ne attendant on duty within 100 <br />feet of the device dispensing said fuel at all times when such <br />devices are open to the public. Said attendant shall be avail- <br />able to observe and control the dispensing of such fuels while <br />such fuels are available to the public and to supervise pump- <br />ing, if necessary, to the end that such fuels be dispensed to <br />eliminate the risk ob bodily injury and property damage. Said <br />attendant shall have available on the premises and within 100 <br />feet of the dispensing device at least one fire extinguisher <br />suitable for and effective against fires in flammable liquids, <br />gases, and greases and against fires which involve energized <br />electrical equipment, where the electrical non-conductivity of <br />the extinguishing media is of importance and which extinguisher <br />shall be capable of extinguishing a 6. square foot area of flam- <br />mable liquid fire in liquid of a depth greater than one-eighth <br />(1/8th) inch. <br />2. This ordinance shall be in full force and <br />effect from and after its adoption and publication as required <br />by law. <br />3. Any person, firm or corporation violating <br />this Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor' and shall be <br />fined not more than Fifty Dollars ($50. 00), or imprisoned for <br />not more than thirty (30) days. Each operation of the dispensing <br />device in violation of this Ordinance shall be a separate offense. <br />Commissioner Rogers seconded the motion and the Ordinance <br />was read and passed.its first.reading by unanimous vote. The Clerk was <br />instructed to cause due notice to be given of a public hearing to be held within <br />fifteen days and for clarification the Board directed that the entire Ordinance <br />be published in the notice. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker, duly seconded <br />by Commissioner White, it was unanimously RESOLVED to establish the fees <br />for electrical inspection in accordance with the following schedule from and <br />after April 1, 1971: <br />
