Based on the State Personnel Department Salary Schedule <br />effective July 1, 1971, it was recommended that professional personnel <br />remain at state level and clerical and sub-professional remain at one <br />grade below state level. <br />2. Recommended that the State Personnel office be contacted for new <br />job descriptions fox certain employees in maintenance who are performing <br />duties other than janitorial. <br />Requested representative from State Personnel Department meet with <br />Personnel Committee to review County jobs. <br />3. Based on a recommendation made by State Personnel Department after <br />their study and review of job descriptions, the following changes are <br />requested: <br />Maintenance Supervisor, Hugh Brewer, from Grade 56 to Grade 58 <br />Secretary-Deputy, Margaret Frasier, from Grade 53 to Grade 54 <br />Secretary-Bookkeeper, Patsy Rogers, from Grade 53 to Grade 54 <br />Change job description of Pattie McGilvary from Deputy Register of <br />Deeds 11 to'Assistant Register of Deeds (Register of Deeds made this <br />appointment). Change grade.from 54 to 55. <br />4. Recommended that hourly maids and janitors be paid a minimum of <br />$1. 80 per hour. <br />5. For Clarification: <br />Any merit raise for department heads and their staffs will be considered <br />along with their regular budget requests. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper moved that the recommendations of the <br />County Personnel Committee be adopted and implemented in the forthcoming fiscal <br />year. Commissioner Perry White seconded the motion, and upon a vote it was <br />unanimously adopted. <br />Commissioner Rogers distributed a brochure explaining the distribution <br />of tax funds for the consideration of the other members of the Board. <br />Mr. L. L. Beckham, Director of Civil Defense, gave a report on the <br />activities of his Department. <br />Mr. L. L. Beckham appeared before the Board and gave a report on the <br />activities of the Regional Law and Order Committee and advised the Board that he <br />would have all of their requests turned in:to the Regional Director prior to his <br />retirement. <br />Mr. Vic Barfield, Deputy Director of the Department of Conservation and <br />Development and representatives of the forestry service appeared before the <br />Board with respect to'the vacancy in the forestry program in Lee County. Mr. Barfield <br />stated that his Department was sorry if any embarrassment had been caused concerning <br />this appointment, and that the Forestry Service desired to upgrade the position in <br />Lee County from a ranger position to a forester position. Members of the Forestry <br />Service explained to the Board the differences in the-types of services performed, and <br />Mx. Joe Goggins, local Forestry Service employee, stated to the Board that he was <br />in agreement with the appointment of a Forester for Lee County; that it would be an <br />improvement.
