aooK 8 PncE 3 <br />Commissioner Cooper moved that the following resolution be <br />adopted: <br />WHEREAS, the bond order entitled "Bond Order <br />authorizing the issuance of $50, 000 Sanitary Landfill Bonds of <br />the County of Lee" introduced at the meeting of The Board of <br />Commissioners held on August 16, 1971, has been duly published <br />with notice of hearing thereon and the Board of Commissioners <br />has, at the time and place specified in such notice of hearing, <br />heard any and all citizens and taxpayers who desired to protest <br />against the issuance of the bonds, and such hearing has been <br />closed; and <br />WHEREAS, the County Accountant has, by direction of <br />the Board of Commissioners, filed in the office of the Clerk of <br />the Board of Commissioners a statement of debt incurred and to <br />be incurred for purposes other than school purposes, under bond <br />orders either introduced or passed, complying with the provisions <br />of the County Finance Act, and such statement so filed shows that <br />the net indebtedness of the County is . 00676% of the assessed <br />valuation of property in said County as last fixed for County taxation; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of the <br />County of Lee as follows: <br />(1) The bond order entitled, "Bond Order authorizing <br />the issuance of $50, 000 Sanitary Landfill Bonds of the County of <br />Lee", introduced at the meeting of the Board of Commissioners <br />held on August 16th, 1971, is hereby adopted without change or <br />amendment. <br />(2) The Clerk of the Board of Commissioners is hereby <br />directed to cause a copy of said bond order to be published with the <br />statement as to its adoption prescribed by.The County'Finance Act <br />in The Sanford Daily Herald, a newspaper published in Sanford, <br />North.Carolina, and such publication shall be made in the manner <br />prescribed by The County Finance Act. <br />The motion having been duly seconded by Commissioner Rogers , <br />it was unanimously adopted. <br />Chairman Franklin D. Wicker reported on the search for a suitable <br />tract of land for use as a land fill site. He reported that a 112 acre site was <br />available in Greenwood Township, near Lemon Springs. Upon motion of Commissione <br />Cooper, seconded by Commissioner White, it was unanimously resolved to author- <br />ize the Chairman to take an option upon the 112 acre site at the most favorable terms <br />he could secure. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper reported on the status of the <br />application for assistance in obtaining an ambulance. <br />Chairman then called on the County Attorney to summarize the <br />provisions of the Act adopted at the last session of the General Assembly, which <br />allows for the levy of a 1% local sales and use tax. Following a review of the <br />statute, the Chairman declared the published public hearing on the adoption of <br />a local 1% sales and use tax open and recognized the following people: Mr. Orton <br />J. Cameron of Route 4, Sanford, North Carolina, spoke in favor of the tax. Mr. <br />Hal Hancock, of Route 1, Sanford, North Carolina, spoke in favor of the tax. Mr. <br />J. Mack Auman, of Carbonton Road, Sanford, North Carolina, spoke in favor of <br />the tax. Mr. Frank Pxuitt, of Route 9, Sanford, North Carolina, spoke in favor <br />- 3- <br />
