I <br />Boos 8 ~ArE 12 <br />by Commissioner White, it was unanimously resolved to pay the bills presented <br />in the amount of-$12, 336. 83, from the General Fund which is to be reimbursed <br />from the proceeds from the sale of bonds. The resolution was unanimously <br />adopted upon a roll call vote wherein Messrs. Cooper, Rogers, White, F. <br />Wicker and G. Wicker all voted for it and no one voted against it. <br />The Chairman reported that the Appraisal Company had completed <br />98% of its w6rk and its statement was in accordance with its contract and had been <br />approved byithe Tax Supervisor. Upon motion of Commissioner Gordon Wicker, <br />seconded by (Commissioner Cooper, it was unanimously resolved to pay the <br />statement in! the amount of $1, 170.40. Messrs. Cooper, Rogers, White, F. <br />Wicker and G. Wicker all voted for it and no one voted against it. <br />Commissioner Cooper gave a report on the Ambulance situation <br />and there was a discussion about ambulance rental. <br />Mr. Hugh Brewer, Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds, was <br />asked to take steps to kill the vegetation under the steps of the parking building <br />adjoining the Methodist Church. <br />Commissioner White outlined the proposed improvements to the <br />Courthouse Annex where the Agricultural Extension Services are housed. <br />Commissioner White was authorized to proceed with planned improvements within <br />the existing budget appropriation and to secure any necessary wall rights for the <br />contemplated storage building to house the voting machines. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner White, seconded by Commissioner <br />Cooper, it was resolved to appropriate the sum of $500. 00 from the Emergency <br />and*Contingency Fund to the Building and Grounds Fund for the purpose of paying <br />for the painting done at the New Hope Juvenile Center. Messrs. Cooper, <br />Rogers, White,. Wicker and G. Wicker, all voted for it and no one voted against <br />it. <br />The Board authorized the Superintendent of Building and Grounds <br />to secure bids for paving on the parking deck on Steele Street. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Rogers, duly seconded and unanimously <br />adopted, it was resolved to authorize Commissioner William H. Cooper to negotiate <br />a suitable rental arrangement for an ambulance for use by the County'. ' <br />The Chairman read to the Board a letter received from the Department <br />of Social Services concerning the availability of funds for improvement of con- <br />finement facilities: No action was taken upon this information. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker reported to the Board that there was <br />a house and lot available adjoining the site where the Department of Social Services <br />is housed and that he recommended theBoard investigate the possibility of purchasing <br />the site and utilizing it as additional office space for the Department of Social, <br />Services. <br />Commissioner Cooper moved the adoption of the following resolution <br />pertaining to the levying'of a 1% local sales and use tax: <br />"A Resolution Levying A One Per Cent (1%) Local Sales and <br />Use Tax and Prescribing the Method of Distribution of the <br />Net Proceeds within Lee County. <br />WHEREAS, a public hearing on the question of _ <br />levying a one per cent (1%) local sales and use tax in Lee <br />County was held on September 7, 1971, pursuant to public <br />notice duly given as required by law, and <br />- 2 - <br />
