Boas ~Q Pis{ 9 <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners has determined it is <br />necessary for the purpose of establishing and conducting a system of super- <br />vised recreation to call a special election to submit to the qualified voters <br />of said County the question of whether or not a special tax shall be levied <br />for such purpose, NOW, THEREFORE, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners for the County <br />of Lee as follows: <br />(1) The question whether the qualified voters of the County of <br />Lee shall approve or disapprove the levy of an annual tax of not more than <br />ten cents (10~) on each one hundred dollars of assessed valuation of the taxable <br />property within such County for providing, conducting, and maintaining a super- <br />vised recreation system shall be submitted to the qualified voters of the County <br />of Lee at a special election to be held in said County on November 6, 1971, <br />(2) The Clerk to the Board of Commissioners is hereby authorized <br />and directed to publish a notice of the submission of said questions at said special <br />election in substantially the following form: <br />"COUNTY OF LEE, NORTH CAROLINA <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD <br />ON NOVEMBER 6, 1971 <br />NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that at a special election to be held in the <br />County of Lee, North Carolina, on November 6, 1971, there will be submitted to <br />the qualified voters of said County the question whether they shall approve or <br />disapprove the levy of an annual tax of not more than ten cents (10~) on each one <br />hundred dollars of assessed valuation of the taxable property within such County <br />for providing, conducting, and maintaining a supervised recreation system. <br />The ballot-labels for the voting machines to be used at said <br />election shall contain the words 'For the levy of a special recreation tax of not <br />more than ten cents (10~) for providing, conducting, and maintaining s super- <br />vised recreation system', and the words, 'Against the levy of a special recrea- <br />tion tax of not more than ten cents (10~) for providing, conducting, and main- <br />taining a supervised recreation system' in such form as will allow the voters at <br />said election to vote for or against said tax. <br />In the event that a majority of the qualified voters voting at said <br />election shall vote to levy such tax, the Board of Commissioners by appropriate <br />resolution shall put into effect such proposition as soon as practicable. <br />The polls for the election will open at the hour of 6:30 o'clock a. m. , <br />and will close at the hour of 6:30 o'clock p. m. The election will be held at <br />the same polling places at which the last election was held in Lee County for the <br />election of members of the General Assembly. <br />Registration books of Lee County in such election precincts will be <br />used for the election. All qualified voters whose names are not registered upon <br />such registration books and who present themselves for registration may be <br />registered on or before October 16, 1971, being the twenty first day before said <br />election, by the Special Registration Commissioner at the office of the Register <br />of Deeds in the Lee County Courthouse on any business day between 8:30 o'clock a.m <br />and 5:00 o'clock p. m. <br />Any qualified voter of the County who expects to be absent from the <br />County during the entire period the polls are open on the day of the election, or who <br />because of sickness or other physical disability will be unable to be present at the <br />voting place to vote in person may apply for an absentee ballot to be used in voting <br />at said election not earlier than forty five days prior to said election and not later <br />- 3 - <br />
