Government Commission of North Carolina is hereby <br />requested to sell said notes in the manner prescribed by <br />the Loclal Government Act of North Carolina. <br />Commissioner Gordon Wicker seconded the motion, and the <br />motion was adopted. Those voting for the motion were Messrs.. Cooper, <br />Rogers; White, G. Wicker and. F. Wicker. No one voted against it. <br />The minutes of the adjourned regular meeting held on Monday, <br />September 20, 1971,1 and the minutes of the regular meeting held on Monday, <br />October 4, • 1971, were approved and ordered recorded, upon motion of <br />Commissioner Cooper, duly seconded and unanimously adopted. <br />Chairmlan J. R. Ingram, Assistant Superintendent Ernest Atkin- <br />son and Assistant Superintendent Jerry Seaman,. appeared before the Board and <br />presented a request for two additional school buses for use by the Sanford City <br />Board of Education, i This makes a total request of five new buses. `Assistant <br />Superintendent Atkinson stated if the County would place a purchase order for <br />two buses, the Statelwould provide two buses for temporary use until the new <br />buses were delivered. The matter was taken under advisement. <br />Mr. Frank Lewis, Field Representative of the North Carolina <br />Association of County Commissioners, appeared before the Board.. Mr. Lewis <br />reminded the Commissioners that they should familiarize themselves with the <br />new Machinery Act and particularly with the provisions relating to exemptions <br />for people retired avid 65 years of age. Mr. Lewis stated that there were many <br />exceptions and the Commissioners would hear complaints about the classifications <br />made and should be prepared to answer questions on these points. Mr. Lewis <br />also 'spoke to the Commissioners about steps being taken to organize an overall . . <br />coordinating body for region J. <br />Dr. Ben. Brooks, Superintendent of the Lee County Board-of <br />Education appeared before the Board and stated.that he was advised that if the <br />County would furnisli a letter of intention to purchase five school buses before <br />the beginning of the next school year, that the State would furnish two buses for <br />use by the City Board of Education for the remainder of this school year. <br />I <br />Reverend William Perkins and members of the Lee County Rescue <br />Squad appeared before the Board.. Commissioner William Cooper outlined the <br />sequence of events which had lead to the emergency purchase of a used ambulance <br />for use by the Rescue Squad and the County employees in the oIperation of the <br />County Ambulance Service. Reverend Perkins spoke on behalf of the Rescue Squad <br />members in setting forth their position of the need for new equipment for use by <br />the Ambulance Servilce. Mr.' Perkins stated that the members Iof the <br />Rescue Squad would appreciate a written expression of the Board's intentions as to <br />future operations. The matter was taken under advisement. <br />Mr. Sam Bass, 'appeared _on behalf of the Lee County Recreation <br />Foundation and stated that his Board would hold their annual meeting that night <br />and it was his intentions to recommend to them that the site for the Civic Center <br />be retained by the Foundation and the remainder, of the property sold to the County <br />for outdoor recreational purposes. Mr.. Ronnie Denton, a recreation specialist, " <br />of the State Government, appeared before the Board at Mr. Bass' request and <br />outlined the procedure whereby,Federal Grants were, available for the establishment <br />of such outdoor recreation areas.. <br />Page 2 <br />
