WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of the <br />County of Lee has investigated the condition fo the above <br />described road which is now a part of the system of roads <br />maintained by the State Highway Commission, and which is <br />:indicated in red on the attached map; and <br />WHEREAS, after careful consideration of the services <br />rendered by. said road and the traffic demands of said county, <br />it is deemed necessary that said road be improved in order to better <br />serve the interests of the people of, this county. <br />. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved, and the Board of <br />County Commissioners hereby approved and request that the State <br />Highway Commission snake the following improvements in the <br />above described road: paved. <br />Commissioner Rogers seconded the motion and upon a vote it was <br />unanimously adopted. <br />Commissioner Cooper moved the adoption of the following resolution <br />requesting the addition of the extension of Secondary Road 1365 to the State Main- <br />tained Secondary Road System: <br />WHEREAS, the attached petition has been filed with the <br />Board of Commissioners of the County of Lee, requesting <br />that the abovedescribed road, the location of which has been <br />indicated in red on the attached map, be added to the Secondary <br />Road System; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is of the <br />opinion that the above described road should be added to the <br />Secondary Road System, if the road meets minimum standards <br />and criteria established by the State Highway Commission for <br />the addition of roads to the System. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of <br />County Commissioners of the County of Lee, that the State <br />Highway Commission is hereby requested. to review the above <br />described road, and to take over the road for maintenance if <br />it meets established standards and criteria. <br />Commissioner Rogers seconded the motion- and upon a vote it <br />was unanimously adopted. <br />There was a discussion about the extension of Industrial Drive in <br />the Jonesboro Heights Section and its relation to its proposed by-pass around <br />Sanford. <br />Mr. Billy Ray Cameron, Director of Civil Defense, appeared <br />before the Board and reminded them that they needed to appoint six members to <br />the Lee County Emergency Operations Council. Mr. Cameron was authorized to use <br />public car-furnished him to attend Civil Defense meeting in Asheville. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper reported on the needs for an air- <br />compressor and the solicitation of bids for such equipment. He also reported the <br />County would need to have a service line extended by the Carolina Power & Light <br />Company to the Sanitary Landfill site. Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker suggested <br />that a study be made concerning the necessity or'advisability on a gate on the road <br />leading to the Sanitary Landfill. <br />
