WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Lee has investigated the condition fo the above described road which is now a part of the system of roads maintained by the State Highway Commission, and which is :indicated in red on the attached map; and WHEREAS, after careful consideration of the services rendered by. said road and the traffic demands of said county, it is deemed necessary that said road be improved in order to better serve the interests of the people of, this county. . NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved, and the Board of County Commissioners hereby approved and request that the State Highway Commission snake the following improvements in the above described road: paved. Commissioner Rogers seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. Commissioner Cooper moved the adoption of the following resolution requesting the addition of the extension of Secondary Road 1365 to the State Main- tained Secondary Road System: WHEREAS, the attached petition has been filed with the Board of Commissioners of the County of Lee, requesting that the abovedescribed road, the location of which has been indicated in red on the attached map, be added to the Secondary Road System; and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is of the opinion that the above described road should be added to the Secondary Road System, if the road meets minimum standards and criteria established by the State Highway Commission for the addition of roads to the System. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Lee, that the State Highway Commission is hereby requested. to review the above described road, and to take over the road for maintenance if it meets established standards and criteria. Commissioner Rogers seconded the motion- and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. There was a discussion about the extension of Industrial Drive in the Jonesboro Heights Section and its relation to its proposed by-pass around Sanford. Mr. Billy Ray Cameron, Director of Civil Defense, appeared before the Board and reminded them that they needed to appoint six members to the Lee County Emergency Operations Council. Mr. Cameron was authorized to use public car-furnished him to attend Civil Defense meeting in Asheville. Commissioner William H. Cooper reported on the needs for an air- compressor and the solicitation of bids for such equipment. He also reported the County would need to have a service line extended by the Carolina Power & Light Company to the Sanitary Landfill site. Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker suggested that a study be made concerning the necessity or'advisability on a gate on the road leading to the Sanitary Landfill.
