Commission William H. Cooper moved that the Board <br />accept the bid of E. F. Craven Company in the amount of $47, 130. 74. Commissione: <br />Perry Whife seconded the motion and the roll call vote was as follows: Messrs. <br />Cooper, Rogers, White, F. Wicker and G. Wicker all voted for it and no one <br />voted against it. <br />Chairman J. R. Ingram, Assistant Superintendent Seamon and <br />Atkinson and Mr. Mack Auman; of the Sanford City Board of Education, <br />appeared before the Board. Dr. Ben Brooks, Superintendent of the Lee County <br />School System also appeared before the Board: Chairman Ingram reported to the <br />Board that the two school boards had agreed upon a plan' of merger which was <br />being formalized' by the attorneys for the respective boards. At present, the <br />boards are working on a building program and these will be presented to the <br />Board of Commissioners at a later date. <br />Representatives'of the State Probation Commission appeared <br />before the Board requesting air-conditioning equipment for their offices in the <br />Courthouse Annex. <br />County Manager and County Superintendent of Building and <br />Grounds were authorized to purchase the necessary units for this purpose. <br />Mr. Tom Haislip,. County Agricultural Extention Chairman, . <br />appeared before the Board and reported that two employees of his department <br />were eligible for certain employee benefits under a state program. After dis- <br />cussion and explanation of the program, upon motion of Commissioner Rogers, <br />duly seconded, it was unanimously resolved to authorize Mr. Haislip to secure <br />full employee benefits for the eligible employees in his department and the <br />County will pay its pro rata share from the present budget appropriation for that <br />department. <br />There was a discussion about plans for improving the council <br />meeting chambers. <br />The Board of Commissioners instructed the County Manager <br />to write the Sheriff and request that persons visiting inmates at the jail not be <br />permitted beyond the first door or entrance and that all doors at the jail should <br />be locked at all times. Further, the Board requested that visitations be limited <br />to the visitors room provided for that purpose. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper moved that the bid of Callson- <br />Murray for an air compressor in the amount of $493. 02 and the bid of Turner <br />Equipment Company, for a 10, 000 gallon fuel tank -in the amount of $1,280. 00 be <br />accepted. The motion was duly seconded and upon a vote was unanimously adopted. <br />
