;'v~a rACF <br />WHEREAS, Phillips Petroleum Company conducted a <br />National Pitch, Hit and Throw Contest on July 25, 1972, <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the event conducted during the All Star Base- <br />ball Game in Atlanta, Georgia, brought together all of the <br />Regional Champions for the purpose of conducting final com- <br />petition in the Pitch, Hit and Mrow Contest; and <br />WHEREAS, WESLEY GILES, son of Mr. and Mrs. John <br />L. Giles of Lee County, North Carolina, competed in local, <br />state, regional and national competitions; and <br />WHEREAS, WESLEY GILES through his athletic prowess <br />demonstrated his outstanding abilities in open competition; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, WESLEY GILES was declared the National <br />Runner-Up in the Ten (10) Year Old Competition; and <br />WHEREAS, WESLEY GILES' victory in the National Pitch, <br />Hit and Throw competition reflects the highest credit upon him- <br />self, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Giles, Lee County and <br />the State of North Carolina. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS: <br />Zj Section 1. On behalf of all the citizens of Lee County, the <br />/A. Z tc Lee County Board of Commissioners takes this opportunity to <br />J20~ express to WESLEY GILES its sincere appreciation and admiration <br />for his excellent performance. <br />2P °o° 41 o~d Section 2. The Lee County Board of Commissioners hereby <br />directs that a copy of this resolution be presented to WESLEY GILES <br />CT moo; ~ y and further that a copy of the resolution be spread upon the permanent <br />r z~0 <br />minutes of Lee County. <br />NNV o y <br />10 a~ 1 , Section 3. Adopted this 7th day of August, 1972. <br />° Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker seconded the resolution and it <br />was unanimously adopted. Wesley Giles accompanied by his father and his <br />coach appeared before the Board anc Chairman Franklin D. Wicker presented a <br />certified copy of the resolution adopted honoring Wesley.for,his. accomplishments, <br />to him. <br />The deed from the City of Sanford for various recreation properties <br />was presented to the Board and was referred to the County Recreation Commission <br />for their review. <br />The Chairman called to the Board's attention a memorandum <br />received from the Triangle J Council of Governments relating to the Revenue <br />Sharing bill. <br />The written report of the Sheriff, Tax Collector and Agricultural <br />Extension Department were received and copies were distributed to members of the <br />Board. <br />Upon motion duly made, seconded, and duly adopted, it was resolved <br />to adjourn until 9:30 o'clock a. m. , on Monday, August 21st, 1972.
