;'v~a rACF WHEREAS, Phillips Petroleum Company conducted a National Pitch, Hit and Throw Contest on July 25, 1972, and WHEREAS, the event conducted during the All Star Base- ball Game in Atlanta, Georgia, brought together all of the Regional Champions for the purpose of conducting final com- petition in the Pitch, Hit and Mrow Contest; and WHEREAS, WESLEY GILES, son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Giles of Lee County, North Carolina, competed in local, state, regional and national competitions; and WHEREAS, WESLEY GILES through his athletic prowess demonstrated his outstanding abilities in open competition; and WHEREAS, WESLEY GILES was declared the National Runner-Up in the Ten (10) Year Old Competition; and WHEREAS, WESLEY GILES' victory in the National Pitch, Hit and Throw competition reflects the highest credit upon him- self, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Giles, Lee County and the State of North Carolina. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS: Zj Section 1. On behalf of all the citizens of Lee County, the /A. Z tc Lee County Board of Commissioners takes this opportunity to J20~ express to WESLEY GILES its sincere appreciation and admiration for his excellent performance. 2P °o° 41 o~d Section 2. The Lee County Board of Commissioners hereby directs that a copy of this resolution be presented to WESLEY GILES CT moo; ~ y and further that a copy of the resolution be spread upon the permanent r z~0 minutes of Lee County. NNV o y 10 a~ 1 , Section 3. Adopted this 7th day of August, 1972. ° Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker seconded the resolution and it was unanimously adopted. Wesley Giles accompanied by his father and his coach appeared before the Board anc Chairman Franklin D. Wicker presented a certified copy of the resolution adopted honoring Wesley.for,his. accomplishments, to him. The deed from the City of Sanford for various recreation properties was presented to the Board and was referred to the County Recreation Commission for their review. The Chairman called to the Board's attention a memorandum received from the Triangle J Council of Governments relating to the Revenue Sharing bill. The written report of the Sheriff, Tax Collector and Agricultural Extension Department were received and copies were distributed to members of the Board. Upon motion duly made, seconded, and duly adopted, it was resolved to adjourn until 9:30 o'clock a. m. , on Monday, August 21st, 1972.
