Cooper moved that the Tax Collector be authorized and directed <br />to refund the amount of $9. 35 to Mrs. Louise McLeod White, as a refund for <br />taxes erroneously assessed and collected. Commissioner Perry White seconded <br />the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. Messrs. Cooper, <br />White, Gordon A. Wicker and Franklin D. Wicker all voted for the Resolution, <br />and no one voted against it. <br />Commissioner- Perry White moved the adoption of the following <br />Resolution with respect to the employment of an Executive Director for the Lee <br />County ASCS office: <br />WHEREAS, the Lee County ASCS. committeemen have been <br />regularly nominated and elected and have duly qualified <br />for office; and <br />WHEREAS, they enjoy the confidence and support of the <br />people of Lee County in administering the ASCS programs; and <br />WHEREAS, they have exercised their judgment in the <br />selection of a Lee County Executive Director; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of <br />Commissioners for Lee County that the supervising authorities <br />are requested to ratify, approve and confirm the appointee <br />of the Lee County ASCS County Committee for the position of <br />Executive Director of the Lee County ASCS Office. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper seconded the motion and upon a vote it was <br />unanimously adopted. The Clerk was directed to prepare a certified copy of the <br />Resolution to be forwarded to the Lee County ASPS County Committee. <br />The Chairman read to the Board a letter from Director Don Cameron <br />of the Lee County Youth Commission thanking the Board for making available <br />the New Hope home as a place of operations for the Youth Development Commission <br />and for the office space provided in the"Cbunty office building. ' <br />The Board next considered what disposition should be made of the <br />New Hope site and directed that the property be mapped and appraised for their <br />consideration, and that an inquiry be directed to all of the County Agencies and <br />Departments to ascertain if any use could be made of the property. <br />with <br />Chairman Franklin D. Wicker reported that/the realignment of the <br />State into regions, it would be necessary for the County to coordinate its <br />Community Action Program with some organization functioning in Region J. The. <br />Chairman advised the Board it would be necessary to hold a public hearing on <br />this matter. Upon motion of Commissioner Perry White, seconded by.Commissioner <br />William I-I. Cooper, unanimously adopted, it was resolved to hold a public hearing <br />on Tuesday, September 5th, at 11 otclock A. M. for the purpose of discussing the <br />'resignation of Lee County from Sandhill Community Action Program, Inc. and the <br />designation of the joint Orange-Chatham Community Action Program, Inc, as its <br />representative. <br />The County Manager distributed copies of a report of soil survey <br />prepared for Wake County for consideration by the Board.. Mr. Harris advised the <br />Board that the representatives of the ASCS program indicated to him that such a soil <br />survey would be a five year project with a total cost of approximately $32, 000. 00. <br />
