it 9 <br />8§ 18-35 <br />LEE COUNTY CODE <br />(3) It shall not be permitted to build campfires <br />anywhere within the park other than in fire- <br />places, grills and campstoves within the es- <br />tablished picnic and campground areas. <br />Campfires should not be left unattended for <br />any length of time unless they are dead out. <br />Wilderness campers are encouraged to use <br />packstoves in place of wood fires. <br />(4) It shall not be permitted to gather or cut <br />green wood of any kind for campfires or <br />other purposes anywhere within the park. <br />Standing or fallen dead wood may be gath- <br />ered for use in campfires, but campers are <br />encouraged, and may find the need, to pur- <br />chase firewood stockpiled within the camp- <br />grounds. Campers are encouraged at all <br />times to utilize an alternative means for fire <br />building, e.g., charcoal, campstoves, etc. <br />(5) Some picnic shelters are free and open on a <br />first come, first served basis. However, shel- <br />ters may be reserved in advance and, in <br />some instances, are required in advance, by <br />applying for a permit form and paying a <br />reservation fee, either to the park manager <br />of the park wherein the shelter is located, or <br />to the administrative offices of the director. <br />(d) Camping. Camping shall be regulated as fol- <br />lows: <br />(1) Genera fly No person shall set up tents, <br />shacks or any other temporary shelter, or <br />bring in any recreational vehicle or boat for <br />the purposes of overnight camping without <br />registering at the park office. Camping shall <br />be permitted at designated sites only. It shall <br />not be permitted to ditch, dig or level ground <br />for tent sites. No camper shall leave a setup <br />camp unattended for more than 48 hours. <br />Any camp setup left unattended for more <br />than 48 hours shall be subject to being taken <br />down and stored by the department, with the <br />owner of the setup items being responsible <br />for the cost of taking down the camp and <br />paying storage fees for such items. <br />(2) Supervised or organized camping. Camping <br />by groups of persons under adequate super- <br />vision is allowed in those parks so desig- <br />nated as group camp areas. All youth groups <br />must have as a minimum, one adult in atten- <br />dance for every ten children. <br />(3) Registration. Campers and guests shall reg- <br />ister with the park manager on a form sup- <br />plied by the department. <br />(4) Length of stay. Campers stay is limited for <br />14 consecutive days, at any one park and <br />two days must elapse before reregistering. <br />(5) Checkout time. Campers shall check out no <br />later than 1:00 p.m. unless prior arrange- <br />ments are made with the park manager. In <br />no event shall the checkout time be ex- <br />tended beyond 3:00 p.m. unless space is <br />available and an additional fee is paid. <br />(6) Payment. There shall be a daily fee for the <br />use of any designated campsite. This fee <br />shall be set by the parks and recreation <br />commission, along with other charges which <br />may be levied for key deposits, pet deposits <br />or other saleable items. All payments shall <br />be made in advance. Refunds for campsite <br />fees may only be made in case of bona fide <br />emergencies. Determination of what consti- <br />tutes an emergency shall be made by the <br />park employee on duty, whose decisions are <br />final and binding. <br />(7) Reservations. Reservations can be made <br />for a minimum of one day. Reservations <br />shall be made on a form adopted by the <br />department and filed with the park. <br />(8) Age. No campsite shall be rented to any <br />person less than 16 years of age. The park <br />manager may refuse to rent to any person <br />who cannot prove the age requirement to the <br />satisfaction of the park manager. <br />(9) Camping equipment. Campers must have <br />camping equipment, consisting of a tent, <br />trailer, van, pickup, camper, bus or motor <br />home. Sleeping in automobiles or in the open <br />is prohibited, unless, in the judgment of the <br />park employee on duty, a bona fide emer- <br />gency exists. <br />(10) Occupancy limitation. Only one camping unit . <br />shall be allowed at each site except that an <br />additional unit for the camper's children un- <br />der 16 years of age is permissible with the <br />CD18:6 <br />
