619
LEE COUNTY
Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow
ORDER TO ADVERTISE
2009 LEE COUNTY REAL PROPERTY TAX LIENS
North Carolina General Stature 105-369 requires the tax collector to report to the
governing body the total amount of unpaid taxes for the current fiscal year that are liens on real
property. The tax collector's report is due the first Monday in February. Upon receipt of the
report, the governing body shall order the tax collector to advertise said tax liens by publishing
each at least once in a newspaper having general circulation within the county.
The tax collector will advertise the unpaid tax liens on real property in The Sanford
Herald upon approval of this order. The advertisement cost is assessed to each parcel and is
added to the unpaid tax bill. To determine the advertising fee assessed to each parcel, the tax
collector will take the total advertising cost to the County, divide it by the number of parcels
advertised and round up to the nearest fifty cents ($0.50). Bankruptcy law prevents the
® advertising of the taxes filed under a bankruptcy claim; therefore, no 2009 tax liens under
bankruptcy will be advertised.
As of January 19, 2010, the total number of liens against real property is 4,306,
amounting to a total of $3,121,195.78.
The Lee County Tax Administrator requests the Lee County Board of Commissioners to
approve the advertisement of unpaid tax liens on real property for the week of March 8, 2010
at a cost per parcel as determined by the above referenced formula.
WITNESS my hand and official seal this 1 st day of February 2010.
ATTEST:
Gaynell M. Lee, Clerk
Lee County Board of Commissioners
Richard B. Hayes, Chairman
Lee County Board of Commissioners
0
