015 <br />IN MEMORY OF HERBERT A. HINCKS <br />WHEREAS, Herb Hincks was born in St. Matthews, Kentucky, completed his undergraduate studies at <br />the U.S. Naval Academy and earned a Master's degree from George Washington University; and <br />WHEREAS, Herb Hincks is survived by wife, Helen, four sons, and 10 grandchildren; and <br />WHEREAS, Herb Hincks located to North Carolina after retirement from the US Navy and was <br />employed by Westinghouse Electric, Allis-Chalmers and Siemens Electric; and <br />WHEREAS, Herb Hincks was elected to the Lee County Board of Commissioners in November 1998, <br />of which he served two terms, along with being elected Chairman of the Board for both terms; and <br />WHEREAS, Herb Hincks also served as Chairman of the Sanford -Lee County Regional Airport <br />Authority where he played a major role in the airport's construction, along with construction of San Lee <br />Middle School, Southern Lee High School, and improvements at Floyd L. Knight School; and <br />WHEREAS, Herb Hincks was awarded The Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 2014, North Carolina's <br />highest civilian award; and <br />WHEREAS, Herb Hincks was a leader and derived gratification simply from having a hand in making <br />Lee County a better place to live; and <br />WHEREAS, Herb Hincks was an honorable gentleman serving his family and community well, and he <br />will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lee County Board of Commissioners hereby honors <br />the memory of Herbert A. Hincks for a life of outstanding service, contributions, and commendable <br />leadership to his community. <br />Adopted this 13th day of July 2015. <br />ATTEST: <br />Gaynell M.
