C. 1 -5 <br />_ Information <br />Meeting Date: March 16, 2015 Action Item <br />XX Consent Agenda <br />SUBJECT Grant Applications for the Lee County Library <br />DEPARTMENT Lee County Library <br />CONTACT PERSON Susan Benning, Library Director <br />REQUEST Lee County Library seeks approval to submit five grant applications <br />that do not require matching local funds for next fiscal year. <br />SUMMARY Summary of requested applications: <br />#1 Cannon Foundation grant application will request $45,000 to replace some of the library furniture that is <br />worn, damaged and soiled. The current furniture is the same furniture that was at the library on opening day in <br />1979/80. Application due April 2, 2015. <br />#2 Dollar General Youth Literacy/Technology grant application would seek $4,000 to buy 10 filament <br />cartridges for a 3D printer to be used for teen programming. The remaining $2,000 would be used to buy items <br />for other tech programs emphasizing robotics, coding for apps, and computer games design. Application due <br />May 2, 2015. <br />#3 ALA Latino American grant application requesting $3,000 for programming about the heritage of Latino <br />Americans in the United States. Application due May 20, 2015. <br />#4 LSTA Edge Initiative Technology grant application would seek $5,000 of technology items to libraries that <br />participated in the Edge Initiative. Lee County Library would request 10 cartridge filaments for the 3 D printer, <br />new router to channel bandwidth, and one laptop for the 3D printer, three tablets to provide roving reference, <br />and 10 Kindle Paperwhite e- readers. Application due June 15, 2015. <br />#5 Redbox grant application would seek $5,000 worth of equipment to be used for an outdoor 4 -hour program <br />storytelling festival with kids activities like jump rope, frisbee tossing, paper airplane contest, and an outdoor <br />movie. Application due May 15, 2015. <br />If all of these grants are awarded, the Library would receive or be able to purchase cutting edge technology <br />equipment to increase services to the public, engage teens at the library, increase services to Hispanics, and <br />partner with local community agencies. These grants would be administered in the new FY 2015 -16. <br />BUDGET IMPACT N/A — no matching funds required <br />ATTACHMENT(S) N/A <br />PUBLIC HEARING No <br />PRIOR BOARD ACTION: N/A <br />RECOMMENDATION Approve the five above referenced grant applications with no matching funds <br />required. <br />
