BK 00027 PG <br />County for the lift station, one this year, and one in 2016. The City would like to know what the County <br />will use the money for from the sale. The City would like to see the money used for connecting water, <br />sewer and broadband at the Lee County Industrial Park to attract more businesses to the area. The <br />City would like to see the money used for broadband more than a replacement building at San -Lee <br />Park as a result of the recent fire. A closing date of March 1 sc was projected. <br />Transfer of Property from County to City - County Manager John Crumpton stated the County is <br />now using a local attorney to handle foreclosure matters. Property jointly owned by the City and <br />County will be turned over to the City once foreclosure proceedings are completed. <br />Renovations to the Hales Center — County Manager John Crumpton stated a plan has been put <br />in place to renovate the County owned Bob Hales Center located at 147 McIver Street but nothing <br />formal has been decided at this time. City Councilman Byron Buckels met a few months ago with <br />County staff, and then Chairman Charlie Parks, to discuss organizations coming together for a midnight <br />basketball league on Friday and Saturday's to help keep young adults, who are aging out of the Boys <br />and Girls Clubs, to be more engaged and get them off the streets. It is anticipated that other sports, <br />including boxing and wrestling, as well as counseling sessions could be offered to assist the youth. <br />Estimated cost to renovate the Center is around $150,000, but at this time no official architectural <br />design or bids have been obtained. Additional meetings of interested groups will need to take place <br />before the project can move forward. <br />City- County Bonds — City Manager Hal Hegwer discussed the City's shortfall for streets and <br />sidewalks. The project may have to be downsized but they will try to find a way to finance the shortfall <br />if necessary. Council members feel they should do what the citizens voted for — "one chance to do it <br />right ". <br />Meeting with Central Carolina Community College — It was noted that Commissioners will meet <br />with the CCCC Board of Trustees on February 9th to discuss bonds recently approved for the new <br />Health Science Center, renovations to the Veterinary Medical Technology Center, renovation of <br />CCCC's Emergency Services Training Center, and expansion of the Dennis Wicker Civic Center. There <br />is a 3 -year window to get the projects completed before the Board of Education's new school request <br />can begin. At this time no architectural design has been completed. It was also noted that State <br />contracting is a difficult process and could delay the project starting. <br />Small Business Incubator — County does not want to be a "landlord ". Three businesses <br />currently rent space from the Steele Street location and pay rent in a timely manner. It was noted that <br />CCCC is looking at other options for this site. <br />VA Clinic — The Veterans' Administration (VA) is working with two (2) individual private citizens <br />for sites at Broadway Road (at the by -pass) and Tramway Road (next to Wakefield). VA has authority <br />over the project. <br />Fire Hydrants along Highway 42 East — Commissioner Tim Sloan requested the City install a fire <br />hydrant on Buckhorn Road at Salem Presbyterian Church. City Manager Hal Hegwer stated the City <br />does not have a policy in place for adding hydrants. Cost of the hydrant ($3,500 - $5,000) and <br />maintenance is also a concern. The City stated if a request was put in to the City and a means to pay <br />documented, they will consider. <br />City /County Comprehensive Plan for 2015 Budget — It was noted the current 20 -20 Land Use <br />Plan is about over. Plans need to be put in place to study an updated Plan and to move forward to the <br />next step in the near future. <br />2 <br />
