LEE COUNTY Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow RESOLUTION SUPPORTING PUBLIC EMPLOYEES IN LEE COUNTY WHEREAS, recently public employees, especially emergency responders and all public serving employees have been in the public spot light for issues that have not reflected well on the majority of public employees who faithfully serve the public; and WHEREAS, the recent public events in our nation and here in Sanford involving police officers has created a climate of high tensions between the public and those sworn to protect the public; and WHEREAS, recent public policy discussions by the Lee County Board of Commissioners may have given the impression to County employees that their opinions and contributions to the betterment of the citizens of Lee County does not matter; and WHEREAS, in recent years our public school teachers at both the K-12 and Community College have not been given the public support they need by the leaders of this community to do the type of work our citizens deserve and expect; and WHEREAS, serving the public in the role as an employee should be an honorable profession and one that the leaders of this community support and one that the citizens of this County should hold in high regard; and WHEREAS, it is time for the Lee County Board of County Commissioners to work together to create positive change in our community and support the employees of not only the County, but the City of Sanford, Town of Broadway, the Lee County School System, Central Carolina Community College, NC Highway Patrol, EMS, fire fighters and all other government agencies who provide services to our citizens; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lee County Board of Commissioners hereby publicly expresses their support of all public employees especially those responsible for providing emergency response and educating our children and pledges to do all that is possible to support all public employees in their work in protecting, educating and providing necessary services to our citizens; and FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED by the Lee County Board of Commissioners as follows: 1. Acknowledges and supports the National Law Enforcement Day of January 9, 2015, 2. Encourages all citizens of Lee County to honor all individuals who have and are serving the public as law enforcement officers, 3. Instructs the Clerk to the Board to forward this Resolution to all local governing boards in Lee County and ask them to support this Resolution. 4. Encourages the general public to take their time and thank those public servants who every day put their lives on the line to provide the services they need in their daily lives.
