BK - 00027 PG:0131
LE COUNT
Y
Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow
SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE
LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
106 HILLCREST DRIVE
SANFORD, NORTH CAROLINA 27330
NOVEMBER 25, 2014
The special meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, State of North
Carolina, convened at 12 noon, in the Commissioners' Room, First Floor, Lee County Government
Center, 106 Hillcrest Drive, Sanford, North Carolina, on said date. Commissioners present were Amy
M. Dalrymple, Dr. Ricky D. Frazier, Dr. Andre Knecht, Charles T. Parks, Kirk D. Smith, and James K.
Womack. Commissioner Robert T. Reives was absent.
Chairman Parks called the meeting to order and the following business was transacted:
Commissioner Womack delivered the invocation.
The pledge of allegiance was recited.
The Board considered an appointment to the Triangle South Workforce Development Board.
Commissioner Womack moved to accept the application submitted by Mr. Bruce Ledford to fill the
position recently vacated by Mr. Ken Armstrong.
Commissioner Frazier expressed concerns he had over the rush to make this appointment. He
stated he had no problems with Mr. Ledford and was sure he would do a good job on the Workforce
Development Board. He didn't understand why a special meeting had to be called to address the
appointment; the new incoming Board should have had some say in the appointment.
Commissioner Womack stated the outgoing Boards' term has not expired and they wanted to
make the last appointment while sitting on the Board. The Workforce Development Board was short
staffed when he came on board in 2010 and it has taken a while to get a slate of committed, competent
citizens to serve. He further stated he feels the Workforce Development Board is in much better shape
with this last appointment.
Upon a vote of Commissioner Womack's motion, the results were as follows:
Aye: Dalrymple, Knecht, Parks, Smith, and Womack
Nay: Frazier
Absent: Reives
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a 5 to 1 vote.
