B. <br />Information <br />Meeting Date: December 1, 2014 XX Action Item <br />Consent Agenda <br />SUBJECT Resolution to Modify Ordinance Concerning Concealed Handguns on <br />County Property <br />DEPARTMENT Governing Body <br />CONTACT PERSON Commissioner Amy Dalrymple <br />REQUEST Consider modifying those portions of Chapter Two of the Lee County <br />Code of Ordinances concerning concealed handguns. <br />SUMMARY As modified on October 6, 2014 and in effect on January 1, 2015, <br />section 2 -31 of the Code of Ordinances allows concealed handguns <br />on certain county property while prohibiting open carry and deadly <br />weapons on county property and in county parks and recreation <br />areas. The Board is now considering further modifying such code <br />sections to prohibit concealed carry in county buildings and <br />appurtenant premises as well as on county recreational facilities as <br />defined by statute. Any changes to this ordinance will require two <br />readings prior to its passage. <br />BUDGET IMPACT N/A <br />ATTACHMENT(S) (1) Resolution <br />(2) Section 2 -31 of the Lee County Code of Ordinances, as modified <br />on October 6, 2014. <br />(3) Proposed Ordinance — Firearms and Deadly Weapons Prohibited <br />on County Property <br />PUBLIC HEARING No <br />PRIOR BOARD ACTION On October 6, 2014, the Board of Commissioners approved the <br />second and final reading of a resolution modifying Section 2 -31 of the <br />Lee County Code of Ordinances to prohibit open carry and deadly <br />weapons but to allow concealed carry in certain county buildings. The <br />modification is set to take effect on January 1, 2015. <br />RECOMMENDATION Pleasure of the Board. <br />
