B. <br />_ Information <br />Meeting Date: December 1, 2014 _ Action Item <br />XX Consent Agenda <br />SUBJECT Approval to Apply for FDA Grant Funding for Environmental <br />Health Training <br />DEPARTMENT Health <br />CONTACT PERSON Terrell Jones / Heath Cain <br />REQUEST The Board of Commissioner is asked to approve submitting an <br />application for an FDA Grant (up to $7,847.17) for equipment upgrades consisting of a new laptop <br />with docking station, (3) mobile printer /scanners, (3) batteries for mobile printer /scanners, and (4) <br />scanners for the office to scan existing and new information. <br />SUMMARY Lee County Environmental Health is undertaking a 5 -year FDA <br />training development program to adopt the 9 FDA standards of Food Code protocols. One <br />component of becoming a FDA Standardized local environmental health program is to apply to <br />become a mentee through the National Association of County and City Health Official's (NACCHO) <br />mentee /mentor program. This grant will aid the local EH program in completing a self- assessment <br />of our existing program. It will also allow us to have a mentor within another jurisdiction to build <br />upon existing policy within the local EH program, and integrate innovative ideas into the food, <br />lodging and institution inspection process. Completing this self- assessment meets the local EH <br />programs initial evaluation of existing policies and /or procedure and is a requirement in the <br />standardization process. <br />The Board of Health approved this request at their September 10 meeting. <br />BUDGET IMPACT Addition of up to $7,847.17 for FY 2014 -15 Environmental Health <br />Budget <br />ATTACHMENT(S) Expenditure request <br />PUBLIC HEARING No <br />PRIOR BOARD ACTION N/A <br />RECOMMENDATION Approve request to apply for grant for up to $7,847.17 for <br />Environmental Health field equipment. <br />
