LEE.CQU-NTY <br />j�. <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />RESOLUTION <br />HONORING LTC SHERRY L. WOMACK <br />WHEREAS, LTC Sherry Womack entered the Army in 1981 at the age of 17; and <br />WHEREAS, LTC Womack graduated from the Warrant Officer Candidate course in 1992 and became <br />commissioned as an Army 2nd Lieutenant to continue her service as an Army Physician Assistant; and <br />WHEREAS, in the mid -1990;s LTC Womack was stationed at Fort Hood and assigned to the 4th Infantry <br />Division to pioneer digital warfighting capabilities in the "Task Force 21" Division; and <br />WHEREAS, LTC Womack completed a Master of Science degree from the University of Nebraska and her <br />Fellowship in Emergency Medicine while stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, where she became the <br />Phase I Coordinator and lead instructor for Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants; and <br />WHEREAS, LTC Womack was deployed after the September 11, 2001 tragedy with the Rakkassan Brigade <br />of the 10111 Air Assault Division into Afghanistan where she began treating Taliban prisoners; and <br />WHEREAS, LTC Womack traveled with the U.S. Special Forces into local villages, providing medical <br />assistance to villagers, and used special speech devices to communicate with local nationals that resulted <br />in identifying weapons caches and capturing local enemy combatants; and <br />WHEREAS, during 2007-2008, LTC Womack deployed with the 261St Med Battalion as part of Operation Iraqi <br />Freedom and offered leadership and organizational expertise to soldiers engaged in medical support of <br />combat units; and <br />WHEREAS, upon return to the U.S., LTC Womack served as the first female Senior Physician Assistant at the 18th <br />Airborne Corps and then as Senior PA at US Forces Command where she continued her service in roles on the <br />Army's Suicide Prevention Task Force and the Women's Health Task Force; and <br />WHEREAS, throughout her career LTC Womack has been awarded many outstanding awards and decorations <br />for her service, with the highest medal being the Bronze Star, and with her 33 years of service she will be <br />retiring from the US Army at the end of October 2014. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners for Lee County, North Carolina, that it <br />congratulates LTC Sherry L. Womack on her 33 years of service and dedication while serving in the Armed <br />Forces of the United States so all of us may live in freedom. <br />Presented this 23rd day of October 2014. <br />Charles T.
