LEE.CQU-NTY j�. Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS RESOLUTION HONORING LTC SHERRY L. WOMACK WHEREAS, LTC Sherry Womack entered the Army in 1981 at the age of 17; and WHEREAS, LTC Womack graduated from the Warrant Officer Candidate course in 1992 and became commissioned as an Army 2nd Lieutenant to continue her service as an Army Physician Assistant; and WHEREAS, in the mid -1990;s LTC Womack was stationed at Fort Hood and assigned to the 4th Infantry Division to pioneer digital warfighting capabilities in the "Task Force 21" Division; and WHEREAS, LTC Womack completed a Master of Science degree from the University of Nebraska and her Fellowship in Emergency Medicine while stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, where she became the Phase I Coordinator and lead instructor for Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants; and WHEREAS, LTC Womack was deployed after the September 11, 2001 tragedy with the Rakkassan Brigade of the 10111 Air Assault Division into Afghanistan where she began treating Taliban prisoners; and WHEREAS, LTC Womack traveled with the U.S. Special Forces into local villages, providing medical assistance to villagers, and used special speech devices to communicate with local nationals that resulted in identifying weapons caches and capturing local enemy combatants; and WHEREAS, during 2007-2008, LTC Womack deployed with the 261St Med Battalion as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and offered leadership and organizational expertise to soldiers engaged in medical support of combat units; and WHEREAS, upon return to the U.S., LTC Womack served as the first female Senior Physician Assistant at the 18th Airborne Corps and then as Senior PA at US Forces Command where she continued her service in roles on the Army's Suicide Prevention Task Force and the Women's Health Task Force; and WHEREAS, throughout her career LTC Womack has been awarded many outstanding awards and decorations for her service, with the highest medal being the Bronze Star, and with her 33 years of service she will be retiring from the US Army at the end of October 2014. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners for Lee County, North Carolina, that it congratulates LTC Sherry L. Womack on her 33 years of service and dedication while serving in the Armed Forces of the United States so all of us may live in freedom. Presented this 23rd day of October 2014. Charles T.
