MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR THE <br />COUNTY OF LEE, NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, January 15th, 1973 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for <br />Lee County, North Carolina, convened in the Commissioners' Room on <br />the second floor of the County office building at the corner of Steele and <br />Wicker Streets in the City of Sanford, at 7:00 o'clock p. m., on Monday, <br />January 15, 1973. Chairman Gordon A. Wicker and Commissioners William <br />H. Cooper, Hal L. Hancock, J. Eugene Rogers, and Franklin D. Wicker were <br />present. Chairman Gordon A. Wicker presided and the following business <br />was transacted: <br />The minutes of the regular meeting held on Tuesday, January <br />2; 1973, were approved and ordered recorded upon motion of Commissioner <br />Rogers, seconded by Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker, unanimously <br />adopted upon a vote. <br />Messrs. N. V. Keith, Orton J. Cameron, and Sam Bass, of <br />the Lee County Recreation Foundation; Messrs. J. E. Heins and Sonny Baker, <br />of the Lee County Recreation Department; and Mr. Lottie Bryan, Landscape <br />Architect of Raleigh, appeared before the Board. The representatives <br />of the Recreation Foundation discussed with the Commissioners the possibility <br />of the Foundation making a gift to the County of a tract of land to be used as a <br />recreational park and to be improved by the County through a federal grant. <br />After extended discussion, Mr. Cameron offered on behalf of the Recreation <br />Foundation to convey to Lee County, approximately 49 acres of land upon <br />the following conditions: <br />(a) The Foundation would reserve and except a tract <br />large enough for a convention building. <br />(b) The land would be used for recreation purposes. The <br />initial conveyance would be a fee determinable but if the County applies <br />for and accepts a grant under the Land and Water Conservation Fund Act <br />of 1965, the conveyance will be made in fee simple. <br />(c) The land will be free and clear of all encumbrances. <br />(d) The Recreation Foundation shall have the right to name the <br />park. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper moved the offer be.accepted. <br />Commissioner Franklin D. -Wicker seconded the motion. Upon a vote, <br />Messrs. Cooper, Hancock, Rogers, F. Wicker, and G. Wickerall voted for <br />it and no one voted against it. <br />
