Wicker moved that the Social Security <br />Administration be authorized to use its present space in the County Office <br />Building until September 30th. The motion was duly seconded and unanimously <br />adopted. <br />The Chairman reported that Dr. John Dotterer had received <br />inquiries about use of land on Hawkins Avenue which Dr. Dotterer had <br />acquired with the view to making it available as a Library site. The Board <br />did not express any favorable action about constructing a Library or <br />making use of the site at the time. <br />Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker reported that the Senior <br />Citizens Program if operated under the Region J Council of Government, <br />would be eligible for grants. Commissioner William H. Cooper moved that <br />the Board go on record as establishing a Senior Citizens Program. Comm- <br />issioner J. Eugene Rogers seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unan- <br />imously adopted. <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker reported that the Board had at its <br />last meeting appropriated $10, 735. 30 to the Current Expense Fund of the <br />Lee County Board of Education and had authorized the transfer of $3, 071. 00 <br />to the Capital Outlay Fund for the purchase of a pick up truck for use by the <br />Transportation Supervisor. Superintendent B. T. Brooks has written to the <br />Board that they would not transfer the funds and requested that $3, 071. 00 be <br />made available to the Capital Outlay Fund for this purpose. Commissioner <br />J. Eugene Rogers moved that the sum of $3,071. 00 be apropriated from the <br />unappropriated surplus in the General Fund to the Capital Outlay Fund for the <br />Lee County Board of Education for the purpose of buying a pick up truck for <br />use by the Transportation Supervisor. Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker <br />seconded the motion and upon a roll call vote, Messrs. Cooper, Hancock, Rogers, <br />F. Wicker and G. Wicker all voted for it and no one voted against it. <br />The Chairman reported that he had received a request from Mr. <br />E. W. Atkinson, Assistant Superintendent of the Sanford City Board of <br />Education, requesting authority to remove a portion of the wall between the <br />Receptionist's office and the records room. Superintendent of Building and <br />Grounds had stated that this is not a load bearing wall and it would not present <br />any complications to remove it. Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker moved <br />that the request be approved. Commissioner William H. Cooper seconded the <br />motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. Billy Ray Cameron was authorized to conver with the Chair- <br />man of the Board of Commissioners for Chatham County relative to participation in <br />the Communications Network to be established within Region J. <br />There was a discussion about repair of County vehicles and the <br />County Accountant was directed to notify all department heads who have <br />County vehicles and remind them that bids for repair of County vehicles must <br />conform to the monitary limits provided by statute and that the statutory <br />procedure for bidders will be strictly enforced. The only exception to the <br />B foregoing rules will be that the County will cooperate with any insurance <br />Q carrier who is responsible for repairing. the County's vehicles in accordance <br />Z o" with the terms of the contract of insurance. <br />W C A g Commissioner Franklin D.
