D. <br />MARY ALICE HOLMES <br />ROY UTLEY <br />GLENN YORK <br />The Sanford City Board of Education, meeting in special session on <br />April 16, 1973, with all members present, approved the following resolution: <br />A plan of merger, not requiring approval of the people, a capital <br />improvement program or a bond referendum, containing all of the following <br />features: <br />a. The merger of the school districts and Boards of Education on <br />Jul 1 1973 or as soon thereafter as a formal legal document can be drafted <br />y the respective attorneys and approved by the Lee County Board of <br />Commissioners and the State Board of Education. <br />A merged Board of Education consisting of seven members. <br />c. The membership of the initial merged board would be selected from <br />the present Lee County Board of Education and Sanford City Board of Education. <br />Four members would be from the present Sanford City Board of Education and <br />three members from the present Lee county School Board. Three of the members <br />of the initial merged board would hold office until election 1975. The <br />remaining four members would hold office until election 1977. Subsequent <br />terms of office for all members would be for four years each. Any member <br />would be eligible for reelection at the expiration of his or her term of <br />office. <br />d. Except for the terms of.the members of the initial merged board, <br />all members of the merged board would be elected at large by all the voters <br />of Lee County. No candidate, in order to be eligible for election, would be <br />required to be a resident of any particular area or district within the county. <br />e. The initial merged Board would select a Superintendent of Schools <br />for the merged school administrative unit. The present Superintendent of <br />the Lee County School Administrative Unit and the present Superintendent of the <br />Sanford City School Administrative Unit shall be eligible for consideration <br />for the position of Superintendent of the merged unit. <br />J.
