0 Baas 8 RAGE 2ZO <br />Mrs. Leonard Ascough and Mr. John D. Pegram appeared before <br />the Board and presented the budget request for the program of the Lee County <br />Council on Aging. The request was for the total budget of $11, 937. 06, of which <br />$1, 800. 00 could be items designated as "in kind" services or space. Tentative <br />approval was given for this budget for this program to be included in the <br />appropriate agency which would sponsor the program. <br />Mr. Whit Stallings, District Forester and Mr. Allen Matthews, <br />Assistant County Ranger, appeared before the Board and presented the request <br />for County funds for the operation of the forestry program for the coming year. <br />Chairman Robert W. Dalrymple and Superintendent Ben Brooks <br />appeared before the Board and presented the budget request on behalf of the <br />Lee County Board of Education. <br />Chairman J. R. Ingram of the Sanford City Board of Eduation appear- <br />ed before the Board and presented a draft of a new merger agreement which he stat- <br />ed satisfied the requirements of the Attorney General's Department. Copies were <br />also furnished to Chairman Robert W. Dalrymple of the Lee County Board of <br />Education. Chairman J. R. Ingram and Superintendent Kenneth Brinson, appeared <br />before the Board and presented the budget request on behalf of the Sanford City <br />Board of Education. <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker stated that the Local Governmental <br />Employees' Retirement System would allow the beneficiary of Mr. James Chand- <br />ler Eakes to claim credit for his services as a public school teacher from <br />September 1, 1926 through July 1st, 1933, if the Board of County Commissioners <br />would authorize it. Upon motion of Commissioner Cooper, seconded by Comm- <br />issioner Franklin D. Wicker, it was unanimously RESOLVED to give such author- <br />ization and the Chairman was further authorized to send a letter to such effect to the <br />North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System. <br />Mr. Billy Ray Cameron, Director of Civil Defense, appeared before <br />the Board and advised the Board that the Federal Government has decided to <br />liquidate the inventory of emergency medical supplies and equipment prepositioned <br />at strategic locations throughout the Country. The State Health Director has <br />indicated that the packaged disaster hospital located in Lee County could be <br />turned over to Lee County as a resource for disaster purposes. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Rogers, seconded by Commissioner <br />Hancock, it was unanimously RESOLVED to accept the packaged disaster hospital <br />in keeping with the request of the State Health Director. A photo copy of the <br />County's decision is attached to these minutes and by this reference made a part <br />hereof. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker, seconded by <br />Commissioner Hal Hancock, it was RESOLVED to appropriate the sum of <br />$1, 300. 00 from the unappropriated surplus in the General Fund and to allocate <br />$600. 00 to the Department of Social Services, $400. 00 to the Public Health De- <br />partment and $300. 00 to the Mental Health Department for the purpose of operating <br />a student employment program this summer. Messrs. Cooper, Hancock, Rogers, <br />F. Wicker and G. Wicker, all voted for it and no one voted against it. <br />There being no further business to come before the meeting, it <br />adjourned. <br />
