BOOK 8 PAGE 2Z
Mr. James C. Pate and Mr. R. J. Bracken, Jr., of the
firm of Pate and Mullins, Architects- and Engineers, appeared
before the Board at its request in connection with the proposals
to run water and sewer lines down the Cox Mill Road. Upon
motion of Commissioner William H. Cooper, seconded by Commissioner
Hal L. Hancock, it was unanimous to authorize Pate and Mullins
to prepare plans and specifications for the extension of the
water and sewer lines down the Cox Mill Road.
The lists of the members of the Cape Fear Rural Fire
Department and the Northview Rural Fire Department were submitted
and considered by the Board. The lists, as submitted, were
approved and the Chairman was authorized to execute the certif-
icate attesting to the membership of said fire companies.
Dr. Ben Brooks, Superintendent of the Lee County Board
of Education, appeared before the Board and requested approval of
the amended budget of the Lee County Schools. The amended budget,
a copy of which is attached to these minutes as an exhibit, and
by this reference incorporated herein, was considered and discussed
and upon motion of Commissioner Rogers, seconded by Commissioner
Cooper was duly approved as amended. Messrs. Cooper, Hancock,
Rogers, Franklin D. Wicker, and Gordon A. Wicker all voted for
it and no one voted against it.
The Board then proceeded to hold a public hearing on
the budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1973. No one
asked any questions about the budget and after a reasonable
opportunity was afforded for questions, Commissioner Rogers
moved that the hearing be closed. Commissioner Cooper seconded
the motion and upon a vote, it was unanimously adopted.
The Clerk requested instructions as to the desired
method of sale for the former New Hope.School property. The
Board instructed the Clerk to advertise the property for sale on
Page 3
