Cooper moved that Mr. James L. Clark
be appointed County Tax Supervisor. Commissioner Franklin D.
Wicker seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously
adopted. The Chairman declared that Mr. Clark had been duly
appointed County Tax Supervisor and advised him to take and
subscribe the proper oath and file it with the Clerk to the
Board of Commissioners.
The Board next took under consideration the recommen-
dation of the County Tax Supervisor for the appointment of an
Assistant Tax Supervisor. The application of Mr. Robert Lea
was submitted to the Board and considered at this time, but no
formal action was taken at this time.
The Chairman reported that the New Hope Home had
surplus funds in the amount of $126.49, which had been
delivered to the County Accountant. The Board directed its said
funds be deposited in the General Fund and the recommendation
that it be used for some charitable purpose was taken under
advisement.
Assistant Director Bynum of the State Office for Civil
Preparedness appeared before the Board together with Mr. Billy
Ray Cameron, Director of the Sanford-Lee County Office for Civil
Preparedness. Mr. Bynum discussed with the Board the assignment
of duties to Mr. Cameron, and Mr. Bynum stated that Mr. Cameron
was a county employee with a full time job. However, when his
duties permit, it was permissible to assign him additional work
so long as such work was not of a regular or continuing nature
which would not interfere with his primary responsibilities.
Mr. Bynum also stated that many counties were changing the name
from Director to Coordinator since that title was more
descriptive of the nature of his work.
Page 2
