p <br />BOOK O ?AGE 26 <br />to serve as representatives of this Board, to confer with the <br />other governmental bodies concerned, and to work for the <br />establishment of a metro government. <br />Commissioner Hancock brought up for discussion the <br />acquisition of a bulldozer for use at the landfill operations. <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker reported that Commissioner McLamb <br />of Harnett County had offered to work with the County in helping <br />to locate a used bulldozer for such work. Commissioner Franklin <br />D. Wicker stated he would contact Commissioner McLamb later in <br />the -week to see what was available at this time. <br />Commissioner Hancock brought up for discussion the <br />acquisition of an additional collection truck for the landfill <br />operations. After discussion, Commissioner Hancock moved that the <br />County proceed to take bids for a truck with the same specifications <br />used in the acquisition of the truck presently owned with the <br />exception of requiring wide front wheels. Commissioner Cooper <br />seconded the motion. Upon a roll call vote, Messrs.' Cooper, <br />Hancock, Rogers, and G. Wicker voted for it and Commissioner <br />F. Wicker. voted against it <br />carried by a majority vote. <br />The Chairman declared the motion <br />The County Finance Officer, Mrs. Beatrice Fields, <br />appeared before the Board and reported that jail personnel who <br />performed substitute or fill-in work were being paid.at the rate <br />of $2.00 per hour. Commissioner Cooper moved that the jail <br />personnel who performed substitute or fill-in work be. compen- <br />sated at the rate of $2..75 per hour. Commissioner Franklin D. <br />Wicker seconded the motion and it was unanimously adopted. <br />The request of Mr. Walter Scoggins, electrical <br />inspector, for inclusion in the retirement plan was referred <br />to the Personnel Committee. <br />v <br />-5- <br />
