he thought similar action should be taken by this Board. <br />Commissioner Wicker moved the adoption of the following <br />resolution: <br />WHEREAS, tobacco farmers throughout the <br />Flue-Cured marketing area.have suffered serious <br />financial losses as a .result of the chaotic <br />marketing conditions and extremely low price <br />being paid by the tobacco companies, and <br />WHEREAS, the marketing situation has <br />deteriorated to such an extent that it is <br />necessary for a thorough investigation to be <br />conducted into all aspects of marketing and <br />selling of tobacco, and <br />WHEREAS, this deterioration cuts. across <br />country and state boundaries and therefore <br />requires a federal.as well as state investi- <br />gation, and <br />WHEREAS,.it is crucial to county govern- <br />ment throughout North Carolina to insure. that <br />the farmer is treated fairly in the marketplace, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the <br />Board of Commissioners for Lee County go on <br />record as requesting that all necessary steps, <br />including a thorough investigation, be taken <br />by the.appropriate state and federal agencies <br />to insure that never again can such chaotic <br />conditions be allowed to happen in the <br />marketing of tobacco. <br />Commissioner Hal L. Hancock seconded the motion and upon a <br />vote, it was unanimously adopted. <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker brought up for discussion <br />the establishment of a metro government for Sanford, Broadway, <br />and Lee County. After discussion, Commissioner Cooper moved <br />that the Board of Commissioners go on record.as favoring the <br />establishment of metro government which would combine local <br />government for Sanford, Broadway, and Lee County; and that <br />the Chairman of the Board be authorized to appoint a committee <br />to work for the establishment of such a form of government. <br />Commissioner Rogers seconded the motion. Messrs. Cooper, Hancock, <br />Rogers, F. Wicker, and G. Wicker all voted for.it. <br />The Chairman, acting pursuant to the resolution, <br />appointed Commissioners William H.
