rJ <br />8 w286 <br />Commissioner Hancock seconded the motion and upon a <br />vote, it was unanimously adopted. <br />Mrs. Iva Nicholson appeared on behalf of the Lee County <br />Childrens Center and requested the sum of $3, 000. 00, to apply on the purchase <br />of a new vehicle. It appearing that the donation could not be made, the request <br />was declined. <br />The Board next proceeded to receive bids for the purchase <br />of two law enforcement vehicles. Womble Chevrolet submitted a total bid of <br />$7, 352, 36. Lee Motor Company submitted a total bid of $7, 629. 60. The <br />Chevrolet vehicle varied in specifications with respect to tires and delcotron. <br />In view of the variation in specifications and considering the quality of the cars, <br />and the service available, upon motion made, seconded and duly adopted, it was <br />RESOLVED to award the bid to Lee Motor Company of Sanford, Inc. <br />Commissioner Hancock reported that a DT-20 bulldozer could <br />be purchased from the State Highway Comission,' for $3, 500. 00, and that he <br />recommended the purchase of this vehicle for the use at the Landfill. Upon <br />motion of Commissioner Hancock, seconded by Commissioner Cooper, the pur- <br />chase of the bulldozer was authorized by the unanimous vote of the Board. <br />Commissioner J. Eugene Rogers joined the meeting and par- <br />ticipated in the further deliberations of the Board. <br />The Board took under consideration the advertisement for <br />bids for an additional collection truck for the Landfill. Commissioner Franklin <br />D. Wicker moved to rescind the prior action of the Board for the taking of <br />such bids. Commissioner Gordon Wicker stepped down from the Chair and <br />seconded the motion Vice-Chairman Hancock presided and upon a vote, Messrs. <br />Cooper, Rogers, Franklin D. Wicker and Gordon Wicker all voted for it and <br />Commissioner Hancock voted against it. Vice-Chairman Hancock declared <br />the motion had carried by a majority vote and relinquished the Chair to <br />Chairman Wicker. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker, <br />seconded by Commissioner J. Eugene Rogers, it was RESOLVED to accept <br />bids for the water and sewer lines to the school bus garage on the 1st Monday in <br />November, at 10:30 o'clock a. m. <br />The Chairman reminded the Commissioners of the meeting <br />of the Council of Government for Triangle "J" to be held on October 24th. <br />Commissioner Hancock moved that the rental for the suite <br />of offices occupied by the Social Security Administration be set at $200. 00 a <br />month beginning on November 1, 1973. Commissioner Cooper seconded the <br />motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted, <br />The Commissioners discussed a proposed agreement <br />between the County for receipt of funds from the State of North Carolina <br />through the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Council <br />for the purpose of supplementing the salaries of certain law enforcement <br />personnel of the County. Under the terms of the contract, the County will <br />have to keep records and made reports to the Council and disperse the funds <br />received according to law. <br />- 2 - <br />
