BOOK O PAGE 350 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR THE <br />COUNTY OF LEE, NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, June 17, 1974 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners <br />for Lee County, North Carolina, convened in the Commissioner's <br />Room on the second floor of the County Office Building at <br />the corner of Steele and Wicker Streets in the City of <br />Sanford at:7:30 o'clock p.m. on Monday, June 17, 1974. <br />Those present were Commissioners William H. Cooper, Hal L. <br />Hancock, J. Eugene Rogers, Franklin D. Wicker, and Gordon <br />A. Wicker. None of the Commissioners were absent. The <br />Chairman declared a quorum present and the meeting opened <br />for the transaction of business: <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker presided and the following <br />business was transacted: <br />The minutes of the meeting held on May 20, 1974, <br />and June 3, 1974, were considered and corrected, and as <br />corrected,.were approved and ordered recorded. <br />The Board next considered the request for $900.00 <br />for the Civil Preparedness Fund as the County's share in the <br />purchase of a new automobile for use by the Director. <br />Commissioner Hai L. Hancock moved that the sum of $900.00 be <br />appropriated from the unappropriated surplus in the General <br />Fund to the Civil Preparedness Fund for the purpose of <br />purchasing a 1972..four-door Ford Torino automobile for use <br />by the Director of Civil Preparedness. Commissioner William <br />H. Cooper seconded the motion and upon a roll call vote, <br />Messrs. Cooper, Hancock, Rogers, F. Wicker, and G. Wicker <br />all voted for it and no one voted against it. <br />Mr. Billy Ray Cameron, Director of Civil Preparedness, <br />appeared before the Board and gave a report on a program held <br />in Atlanta for Region III on Civil Preparedness. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper reported that the <br />specifications for the new 'ambulance had been prepared and <br />had been sent to prospective bidders. <br />There was a discussion about'the installation of <br />guard rails on Horner Boulevard in Connection with disaster <br />prevention. Chairman Gordon A. Wicker requested Commissioner <br />William H. Cooper to contact the proper authorities in the <br />Department of Transportation concerning this matter. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper moved that the Board <br />give its approval to the holding of an emergency service <br />exercise under the direction of the Civil Preparedness Program <br />in the month of.September. Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker <br />seconded the motion and upon a'vote, it was unanimously adopted. <br />
