LEE "COUNTY
Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow
To: Gaynell Lee, Clerk to the Board
Prom: Eric Griffin, Emergency Management Director
Cc: Kenny Cole, Assistant County Manager
Date: March 20. 2007
Subject: Request Approval to Accept Donated Amateur Radio Equipment
1 am pleased to inform you and the Board that Emergency Management was offered a donation
of amateur radio equipment from the executor of the estate of Bill Gordon. Mr. Gordon was an
avid amateur radio participant and the executor of the estate, Ms. Sharon Conder Gordon,
notified our office with her offer of the equipment.
The equipment, if accepted by the Board, would be utilized to provide backup communication in
the Emergency Operations Center, and staffed by trained amateur radio volunteers. The amateur
radio network is currently used in Lee County to provide a secondary means of communications
between the EOC and various command posts and shelter locations. There will be an estimated
cost of $2,000 to install the equipment in the EOC, which has been requested in the Office of
Emergency Management FY 2007-2008 budget.
The value of the donated equipment is estimated to be approximately $4,500-
9s
S MAR 2 3~
Lee County Office of Emergency Management
PO Box 1154, 225 E.
