24
Simi or NoR-ni CAROLINA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
Michael F, Easley Lyndo'fippett
Governor Secretary
LITTER SWEEP ROADSIDE CLEANUP
April 14 - 28, 2007
Dear Friends for a Litter-Free North Carolina:
The beauty and greenness of spring will soon be here. You can make spring in North Carolina even more
beautiful by participating in the N.C. Department of Transportation LITTER SWEEP roadside cleanup that will
take place April 14 - 28, 2007. This is your opportunity to demonstrate your support for a clean North Carolina
by organizing a community cleanup during LITTER SWEEP.
To emphasize the importance of clean roads and a clean environment, Governor Easley has issued a
proclamation naming April 14 - 28, 2007, LITTER SWEEP time in North Carolina. NCDOT crews, local
governments, Department of Correction inmates, Adopt-A-Highway volunteers, churches, civic organizations,
schools, businesses and concerned citizens across the state will be cleaning roadsides with you. Working
• together we can reach our goal of clean and beautiful communities in North Carolina.
The following LITTER SWEEP materials are enclosed for your use in promoting the cleanup:
I. Governor Easley's LITTER SWEEP Proclamation.
2. LITTER SWEEP poster and listing of NCDOT cleanup telephone numbers.
3. Certificate of Appreciation form. (Anyone can receive a certificate for participating in the cleanup.)
4. Most Unusual Litter Contest form. (Cash prizes will be awarded for the most unusual litter found-)
5. Safety Rules, Hazardous Materials Safety Alert and Cleanup Tip Sheet.
ADDITIONAL COPIES OF ALL ITEMS ARE AVAILABLE FROM OUR WEB SITE OR BY CALLING 1-800-331-5864.
Cleanup supplies can be picked up from your local NCDOT maintenance yard. Orange safety vests, orange
trash bags, blue recycling bags and gloves will be available. Some counties will have pickup sticks, too. After
your cleanup, call your local NCDOT maintenance yard to ask for your trash filled orange bags to be picked up
from the roadside.
On behalf of Governor Easley and Secretary Tippett, thank you for your leadership in sustaining clean
communities and a clean state for all North Carolinians.
Sincerely,
1- ~ MAR 2 1 7
Helen Landi, Director
S Enclosures Office of Beautification Programs
MAILING ADDRESS: TELEPHONE: 919-715-3188 LOCATION:
Me DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FAX: 919-715-2554 TRANSPORTATION BUILDING
ROADSIDE ENVIRONMENTAL UNIT WEB SITE: w .ncdot.orgl-beautification 1 SOUTH WILMINGTON STREET
1540 MAIL SERVICE CENTER RALEIGH NC
RALEIGH NC 27699-1540 NC MEAN ABOUT CLEAN
