1G 2007 Proclamation Request Letter March 21, 2007 Lee County Board of Commissioners Bob Brown, Chairman Lee County Government Center 106 Hillcrest Drive Sanford, NC 27330 >t Example NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK April 15-21, 2007 Dear Lee County Board of Commissioners: As we approach the 34th annual National Volunteer Week, to be held April 15-21, 2007, we ask you to honor Lee County's volunteers who tirelessly share their time and talent with those in need - the homeless, the hungry, the elderly, at-risk youth and the disabled in our community. Your support can challenge and encourage the people you represent to commit to sustained and future volunteer service. National Volunteer Week is about thanking one of America's most valuable assets - our volunteers - and calling the public's attention to all that they do to improve our communities. This year, the President of the United States will again sign a proclamation in support of National Volunteer Week. We hope you will join the President in proclaiming the week of April 15-21, 2007 as National Volunteer Week in Lee County and help us bring the week's theme, "Inspire by Example" to life. Enclosed you will find the proclamation and more information about National Volunteer Week, which is sponsored by the Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network. The Week was designated by Executive Order as an annual observance by President Richard Nixon in 1974. Every President since has signed a proclamation of support announcing National Volunteer Week as the national week of recognizing volunteers. Lee County Senior Services plans to honor our volunteers who have made a tremendous difference, giving of themselves at The Enrichment Center on a daily ® basis. We invite each commissioner to join our celebration of volunteers at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, April 17, 2007.
