LEE COUNTY Southern Base of the Research Triangle Region Lee County Economic Development Corporation Mission Statement: The Lee County Economic Development Corporation will work on behalf of Lee County, the City of Sanford, and the Town of Broadway to attract, retain, and facilitate the expansion of high quality business and industry to increase the tax base and job opportunities for Lee County citizens, and to promote sound planning for infrastructure improvements to maximize potential for industrial and residential growth. Industrial and Residential Growth Goal: Enhance the potential of Lee County for attracting new industries, for facilitating growth of existing industries and businesses, and for controlled residential growth. Actions: Work in conjunction with Planning and Public Works to prioritize geographic areas for infrastructure improvements. b. Assist in identifying and developing funding methods for water and sewer expansion. c. Identify areas for industrial parks and recommend appropriate zoning. d. Promote compatible City/Town/County zoning codes and ordinances relative to economic development. e. Support the efforts of the Committee of 100 to have at least one speculative building of suitable size and style completed or under construction for occupancy by a prospective industry or business. f. Work with Chamber of Commerce to initiate forums with local businesses to identify needs and corrective actions, and ensure a close working relationship between the EDC Director and EDC Ambassadors to local industries and businesses Maintain close contact with Lee County schools and Central Carolina Community College to ensure that the educational needs of industry and business are identified. h. Encourage and support small business development in Lee County by participating in the Expo and through the CCCC Small Business Center. i. Develop a plan to solicit and attract upscale retail businesses.
