~6DK 8 EPA cJ <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board <br />of County Commissioners of the County of Lee <br />that the Division of Highways is hereby requested <br />to review the above described road, and to take <br />over the road for maintenance if it meets <br />established standards and criteria. <br />Commissioner J. Eugene Rogers seconded the motion and upon a <br />vote, it was unanimously adopted. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper reported on the <br />work to be done on the relocated U. S. No. 1 to allow for <br />water and sewer lines to cross said right of way. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper called to the Board's <br />attention the request of the Central Carolina Technical <br />Institute that Kelly Drive (SR 1521) be widened from its <br />intersection with SR 1519 northeastwardly pass the campus of <br />the Technical Institute which is approximately 0.38 mile. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper moved the adoption of the <br />following resolution: <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners <br />for Lee County that it concurs with the <br />expenditures of Lee County's Secondary Road <br />Plan Funds for the preliminary engineering <br />survey and right of way acquisition by the <br />Department of Transportation and Highway <br />Safety.for the possible widening of SR 1521 <br />(Kelly Drive) from SR 1519 northeastwardly <br />for 0.38 mile. <br />Commissioner Franklin•D. Wicker seconded the motion and upon <br />a vote, it was unanimously adopted. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper reported that he <br />had been at the access area on the Cape Fear River just off <br />N.C. Highway #42 and that public facilities were in a bad <br />state of repair. The Board requested the Clerk to advise <br />Mr. Cecil Budd of this condition and request his assistance <br />in providing better.maintenance. <br />The Chairman reported that he had received a <br />request from Mid-South Bank & Trust Company requesting <br />approval as a County Depository. After discussion, <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper moved that the Mid-South <br />Bank & Trust Company be approved as a depository for the <br />public.funds of Lee County. Commissioner Hal L. Hancock <br />seconded the motion and upon a vote, it was unanimously <br />adopted. i <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper brought up.for <br />discussion the condition of the State Maintained Secondary <br />Road System and there was the consensus of the Board that <br />the roads are not receiving the same degree of maintenance <br />as in the past and are deteriorating and directed the Clerk <br />to request the Highway authorities to take appropriate steps <br />to improve the maintenance of these roads. <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker reported he had received <br />a letter from Mr. Howard Holly, County Auditor. from Pender <br />County, asking if the Board wished to make any nominations <br />respecting the State's Outstanding County Finance Officer. <br />There was the consensus of the Board that Mrs. Beatrice Fields <br />was a worthy nominee for such award and suggested that the <br />nomination be sent on her behalf. <br />-2- <br />
