8'G1 FACE 396 THe :Chairman reported that he:had received a letter, from Congressman Dave.-Henderson who is assisting the County in ':its-effort& to.secure surplus army pick-ups, for use by. its: rural, fire. department.. The :Chairman read a letter.from Commissioner. Jones. :of the Social Services. Department. -urging counties.to employ additional personnel to increase the use of the Food,Stamp Program. It.was the::consensus of the Board that the Food Stamp Program was .well administered and generally advertised in Lee: County and, therefore,: no action was taken. Chairman Wicker reported that he had received a request,from the Weyerhaeuser Company, for extension of water. and sewer. lines. to. its. industrial site near Osgood in keeping with the County.'s policy. The request was noted for the record and no action was taken. The.Board then proceeded to open bids received for a truck with compaction body.for hauling waste material. The bids received were as 'follows:: Sanco------------------ $4.1,018.85 Simpson Equipment----- $4.1,06o.'.oo.'. The Board considered..the bids received and determined that the Sanco bid .together.with the alternates. it proposed did not meet-the specifications. Commissioner:Hancock moved that the bid of Simpson Equipment Company in the amount of $41,060 be: accepted and that the Board appropriate::$1,180. from the. unappropriated surplus in. the General Fund to. the Landfill'Fund,for the purpose of paying for said truck.. Commissioner.William H. Cooper.seconded the motion and upon a roll call vote:,. Messrs. Cooper., Hancock,. Rogers, F. Wicker., and G. Wicker all voted for it and no one..voted against it. The :Chairman reported that they. had.re.ceived a letter, from the Department of. Transportation about the location of refuse::collec'tion containers on highway rights= of-way.. The matter was referred to. the Landfill Committee. for'.study. . The monthly bills as listed by the.County.Finance. Officer were presented to: the Board and reviewed and discussed. Commissioner Rogers moved that .the monthly bills be paid-and Commissioner. Franklin D. -Wickerseconded the motion.. The motion was adopted by. a unanimous. vote:.. The Board authorized the taking of bids for..the removal of the structures in the-.cleaning up of the. 'debris on the Fleming and Oliver:properties-which were purchased as a library site... Commissioner.-Hal.L.' Hancock nominated Mrs. Louise Dowdy.to.ser.ve the unexpired term of Mr. Glenn York on the Health: Planning Council.' There were no other nominations and upon a vote:,: Mrs.'Dowdy was. unanimously elected to this position. Commissioner. William H. Cooper reported that 'Mr. Joel Jackson had. been designated to be. the, full-time supervisor of the 'ambulance ser.vice.: Commissioner Cooper. was requested to work out an agreement or an amendment to. .the agreement with the Rescue Squad to: cover such action. 7-
