8'G1 FACE 396 <br />THe :Chairman reported that he:had received a <br />letter, from Congressman Dave.-Henderson who is assisting the <br />County in ':its-effort& to.secure surplus army pick-ups, for <br />use by. its: rural, fire. department.. <br />The :Chairman read a letter.from Commissioner. <br />Jones. :of the Social Services. Department. -urging counties.to <br />employ additional personnel to increase the use of the <br />Food,Stamp Program. It.was the::consensus of the Board <br />that the Food Stamp Program was .well administered and <br />generally advertised in Lee: County and, therefore,: no <br />action was taken. <br />Chairman Wicker reported that he had received a <br />request,from the Weyerhaeuser Company, for extension of <br />water. and sewer. lines. to. its. industrial site near Osgood in <br />keeping with the County.'s policy. The request was noted <br />for the record and no action was taken. <br />The.Board then proceeded to open bids received <br />for a truck with compaction body.for hauling waste material. <br />The bids received were as 'follows:: <br />Sanco------------------ $4.1,018.85 <br />Simpson Equipment----- $4.1,06o.'.oo.'. <br />The Board considered..the bids received and determined that <br />the Sanco bid .together.with the alternates. it proposed did <br />not meet-the specifications. Commissioner:Hancock moved <br />that the bid of Simpson Equipment Company in the amount of <br />$41,060 be: accepted and that the Board appropriate::$1,180. <br />from the. unappropriated surplus in. the General Fund to. the <br />Landfill'Fund,for the purpose of paying for said truck.. <br />Commissioner.William H. Cooper.seconded the motion and upon <br />a roll call vote:,. Messrs. Cooper., Hancock,. Rogers, F. Wicker., <br />and G. Wicker all voted for it and no one..voted against it. <br />The :Chairman reported that they. had.re.ceived a <br />letter, from the Department of. Transportation about the <br />location of refuse::collec'tion containers on highway rights= <br />of-way.. The matter was referred to. the Landfill Committee. <br />for'.study. <br />. The monthly bills as listed by the.County.Finance. <br />Officer were presented to: the Board and reviewed and discussed. <br />Commissioner Rogers moved that .the monthly bills be paid-and <br />Commissioner. Franklin D. -Wickerseconded the motion.. The <br />motion was adopted by. a unanimous. vote:.. <br />The Board authorized the taking of bids for..the <br />removal of the structures in the-.cleaning up of the. 'debris <br />on the Fleming and Oliver:properties-which were purchased <br />as a library site... <br />Commissioner.-Hal.L.' Hancock nominated Mrs. Louise <br />Dowdy.to.ser.ve the unexpired term of Mr. Glenn York on the <br />Health: Planning Council.' There were no other nominations and <br />upon a vote:,: Mrs.'Dowdy was. unanimously elected to this <br />position. <br />Commissioner. William H. Cooper reported that 'Mr. <br />Joel Jackson had. been designated to be. the, full-time <br />supervisor of the 'ambulance ser.vice.: Commissioner Cooper. <br />was requested to work out an agreement or an amendment to. <br />.the agreement with the Rescue Squad to: cover such action. <br />7- <br />
