BOOK D FACE 41 7 <br />Chairman Wicker reported that a written request had been <br />received from D. H. Wilkinson, Sr. on behalf of the Board of <br />Trustees of Central Carolina Technical Institute requesting <br />$7,500.00 additional funds for the Institute's current expense <br />budget. These funds would be used to hire a janitor to fill <br />the vacancy formerly filled by an inmate at the Sanford Advance- <br />ment Center and to hire a security guard from 6:00 to. 10:00 P. M. <br />to guard the parking area used by the students. No action was <br />taken upon this request at this meeting. <br />Mr. James E. Coates, Director of Social Services, appeared <br />before the Board and discussed the operations of his department. <br />Mr. Coates volunteered to issue a series of one page memoranda <br />concerning the functions of his department for use by the Commissioners. <br />In the course of his discussion he indicated that there may be a <br />need in the near future for additional eligibility specialists <br />since the down turn had increased the number of applicants at the <br />Social Services Office. <br />Mr. Darrell Mullins of the firm of Pate-Mullins Architects <br />appeared before the Board and presented a drawing showing a method <br />whereby the metal maintenance building could be enlarged by extending <br />the present roof line to the east and cutting off the eastern wall <br />and reusing it. After discussion Mr. Mullins was authorized to <br />prepare final plans and specifications utilizing this method of <br />enlarging the maintenance building. <br />After conferring with members of the Board Commissioner <br />Hal Hancock was authorized to engage the firm of Pate-Mullins to <br />have the landfill site surveyed and a map prepared for recordation <br />at the courthouse. <br />Mr. Billy Ray Cameron, Director of Emergency Services for <br />the County, appeared before the board and reported that the <br />additional monetary units had been secured and distributed to <br />each of the rural fire departments. Mr. Cameron reported that he <br />had been complimented upon the utilization of his office of the <br />federal program in the acquisition of equipment for the Emergency <br />Services Program in the State and that he in turn wished to express <br />his appreciation to the board who had made the funds available <br />in seeing that this program might be a success. <br />Mr. Billy Ray Cameron was authorized to see if he could <br />obtain a grant for the acquisition of a new communications center <br />for the ambulance service and rescue squad. <br />The roster of the Tramway Fire Department was presented <br />to and reviewed by the Board. Upon motion of Commissioner Hancock, <br />seconded by Commissioner Cooper, it was resolved to approve the <br />list as submitted and to direct that the same be certified to the <br />proper state agencies.
