Dotterer, duly seconded <br />by Commissioner William H. Cooper, it was unanimously resolved to <br />authorize the transfer of the Chevrolet Station wagon formerly used by the <br />Sheriff's Department to the Lee-Harnett Mental Health Department <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker reminded the Board that the Social <br />Services Department would have a Christmas party on December 11th at the <br />Moose Club at 7:00 o'clock p, m. <br />The Chairman reported the receipt of a letter from Mrs, Rachel <br />Guthrie, requesting that the Board consider women for appointment to the <br />vacancies of the various County Boards and Agencies as vacancies occur, The <br />letter was circulated to the members of the Board, <br />Commissioner Hal L. Hancock reported that the new truck purchased <br />for the landfill operations was in service, <br />The Chairman brought up for consideration the question of whether <br />or not the County would retain the services of the Department of Natural and <br />Economic Resources in an advisory capacity to the County Banning Board. <br />Commissioner John E. Doaerer moved that the sum of $3, 300. 00 be appropriated <br />from the unappropriated surplus in the general fund for the purpose of engaging <br />and contracting with the Department of Natural and Economic Resources for the <br />services of a planner to assist the County Planning Board, and the Chairman and <br />Planning Board were authorized to execute such a contract with the State Agency. <br />Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker seconded the motion, and upon a roll call vote, <br />Commissioners Cooper, Dotterer, Hancock, F. Wicker and G. Wicker voted <br />for it and no one voted against it. <br />Commissioner John E. Dotterer reported to the Board that at the <br />last general election that the machines were set up in such a fashion that a voter <br />could not vote for Commissioner Cooper, a Democrat, and also for Mr. Dennis <br />Foushee, a Republican, although there were three vacancies to be fille d from among <br />four candidates, and he thinks this matter should be brought to the attention of the <br />Election Board for appropriate action. <br />The written report of the Agricultural Extension Department was <br />presented to the Board and copies distributed to each Commissioner, <br />Page 3 <br />
