the Road Commissioner to contact the necessary. State officials and to take <br />any and all action necessary and appropriate to retain these facilities and <br />equipment in Lee County. Commissioner Hal L. Hancock seconded the motion <br />and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Mrs. Reggie Bowman, from the Council on Aging and Mr. <br />Pearson H. Stewart, Director of the Triangle J Council of Government, <br />appeared before the Board and advised them that a public hearing would be <br />conducted in Sanford by representatives of the Federal Government on the <br />transportation needs of the elderly. Only four such hearings will be held in <br />the Country and the other hearings will be in San Francisco, Philadelphia, and <br />Kansas City. The hearing will be held at Sanford Central High School Cafeteria, <br />on March 1 st, 1975. <br />Commissioner John E. Dotterer joined the meeting and parti- <br />cipated in the further deliberation of the Board. <br />i S . <br />Mr. Darrell Mullins, Architect, of the firm of Pate-Mullins <br />& Associates, appeared before the Board and received approval of,his diagram <br />"B" for the improvements at the Seaboard Coast Line passenger station. <br />Mr. Mullins also reported that he had invited representatives of <br />the Weyerhaeuser; Company to meet with him but they declined to meet with him <br />to discuss the proposed water line. <br />Mr. Pearson H. Stewart, Director of the Triangle J Council <br />of Governments, appeared before the Board and discussed the community <br />development grant program under Title 1 of the Housing and Community Dev- <br />elopment Act of 1974. <br />The Chairman announced that the Tax Supervisor had requested <br />an extension of the non-penalty period for listing of taxes. After discussion, <br />Commissioner Dotterer'moved that the non-penalty period for listing taxes be <br />extended until March 1, 1975, and the tax supervisor be authorized to extend <br />the non-penalty period for businesses requesting an extension pursuant to the <br />provisions of General Statute 105-307. Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker <br />seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Commissioner Hal L. Hancock reported that the Landfill <br />personnel had started a program whereby each trash container would be numbered <br />for identification. <br />The Chairman reported he had received a letter from the Presi- <br />dent of the Central Carolina Technical Institute converning the use of the old <br />County home building. The contents of the letter were discussed and the Clerk <br />was requested to write the National Guard and ascertain what the status of the <br />Armory project is. <br />Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker reported on the positions <br />filled under the Manpower Act. <br />The, Chairman reported that the ambulance which was damaged <br />beyond repair had been replaced by an identical unit and was already in service. <br />The Chairman asked the Board what was its pleasure with res- <br />pect to the request of First-Citizens Bank & Trust Company, to serve as bond <br />paying agent. The Board requested the Finance Officer to contact the other <br />banks in the County and see how many wanted to submit bids. <br />
