Commissioner William H. Cooper moved the payments of the monthly <br />bills as listed by the County Finance Officer. Commissioner Hancock seconded <br />the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />-Commissioner William H. Cooper moved that the sum of $218.19 be <br />appropriated from the funds derived from Revenue Sharing to pay for the cost of <br />a partition wall in the Maintenance Building. Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker <br />seconded the motion and'upon a roll call vote, Messrs. Cooper,. Dotterer; <br />Hancock, Franklin Wicker, and Gordon Wicker all voted for it and no one voted <br />against it. <br />Commissioners John E. Dotterer ancl.Franklin D. Wicker brought up for <br />discussion the Triangle Housing Development Corporation and its housing project <br />in Lee County. After discussion, the Board unanimously voted to instruct our <br />representatives on its Board of Directors to have that organization conform to the <br />bidding requirements and procedures used by local government s for all future <br />projects. <br />Chairman Wicker reported he had received a letter from Mr. Troy Doly <br />of the; Department of Transportation concerning the location of highway equipment <br />and personnel in Lee County. The Chairman reported the tenor of the letter was <br />that there would not be any drastic chances in either the number of employees or <br />items. of equipment stationed in Lee.County. <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker presented a letter and Resolution from the <br />Anson County Board of Commissioners relating to a deposit on beverage containers. <br />The matter was discussed and Commissioner John E. Dotterer moved the.adoption <br />of the following Resolution: <br />WHEREAS, .the littering of our highways and countryside seemingly <br />is becoming more prevalent and is of increasing concern to the Board <br />of Commissioners and all the citizens of Lee County, and <br />WHEREAS, the most commonly seen litter appears to be empty <br />beverage containers, and " <br />WHEREAS, there presently exists little financial' motivation for either <br />the initial consumer or other citizens to return such containers for reuse <br />or recycling, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of Commissioners for Lee County <br />does hereby petition the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina <br />to enact legislation that will require a five cents deposit on each. and <br />every metal, glass or plastic can, bottle or other container sold in the <br />State of North Carolina containing soft drinks, beer or other, alcoholic <br />t beverages. Every dealer licensed to sell such beverages should be <br />responsible for refunding such deposits to those persons returning the <br />empty containers. <br />r <br />Commissioner Hal L. Hancock seconded the Motion and upon a vote it was <br />unanimously adopted. <br />Commissioner William I1. Cooper reported that the ambulance service <br />could participate in securing new communications equipment if County would <br />make available $935.00. After discussion, Commissioner Cooper moved that <br />$935.00 of the funds previously appropriated be allocated for the acquisition of <br />communications equipment and that the Chairman be authorized to contract and <br />apply for such equipment through the Emergency Medical Services authority. <br />Commissioner John E.. Dotterer seconded the Motion and upon a roll call vote, <br />Messrs. Cooper, Dotterer, Hancock, Franklin Wicker. and Gordon Wicker all <br />voted for it. <br />-3- <br />
