Bu0}' ~ PfiGE~'t4J <br />WHEREAS; Dr. Garvin has shown <br />compassionate and concerned +leadership for his <br />professional staff through his efforts to improve' <br />working 'conditions and increase employee benefits <br />such as the inclusion of all employees under the ` <br />Retirement System in 1959; and, <br />WHEREASDr. Garvin <br />has been a spokesman for better public health care <br />and has dedicated his life to the development of an. <br />exemplary district health department; and, <br />'WHEREASDr. Garvin has requeste$ <br />retirement as `of June 30, 1975, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE.IT RESOLVED " <br />that'the Board of Commissioners for Lee County: <br />(1) Take official cognizance of the splendid, <br />able, and dedicated service,of District Health Director- <br />0. ' David Garvin; 'and <br />>,(2), Cause this resolution to become an <br />official part of the, ,minute s of the District. Board of:, <br />Health and a copy of this resolution be transmitted to <br />the'Board of County Commissioners of each county, <br />comprising the District; <br />Commissioner'Franklin D. Wicker seconded•the'motion and upon <br />a vote, tfa resolution wars unanimously adopted. <br />A,_ v <br />.'.'e Commissioner John E. Dotterer joined the meeting!', and partici- <br />pated?.in'the fuether deliberations of the Board. <br />t Commissioner:•Hal L. Hancock moved that the roster of the <br />' meniber.ship'of the, Tramway Ft-re Department be approved and certified to the ; <br />appropriate agencies. Commissioner. Franklin D. Wicker seconded the motion <br />and upon a vote, it,was unanimously; adopted,. <br />The Chairman advised the. Board that a vacancy exited on;the, <br />' <br />Lee County Social Services Board. and that the present member,' Mr. C. S. Ragan, <br />was not eligible for 're-appointment. Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously <br />adopted, it was resolved to appoint Mr. Bobby Hurley, as a member'of the Lee <br />County Social Services-Board. , The Clerk vas instructed to write Mr. Ragan a. <br />letter' of appreciation for his services. <br />Upon motiori,nr ado, duly seconded and,unanimously adopted, <br />the Board Resolved to open the public 'hear`ing on the budget. <br />Dr. Cade Covington, Chairman, spoke on behalf of the Sanford- <br />.Lee County Board, of Education: Dr. 'Covington stated that the Board` of Education <br />had worked out a revised-budget within the-funds provided in the budget prepared <br />by the Board of County Commissioners and that they would get along. with the <br />money provided. There was next a discussion concerning the funds provided for <br />the'Parks and Recreation Department. The Request was presented to the Board <br />for $30; 006. 00, for-use by the Recreation Department. This Request.was tabled <br />upon motion of Commissioner Dotterer, seconded by Commissioner'Franklin D. <br />Wicker, which motion was adopted by a. majority vote and which motion only <br />Commissioner Cooper voted against. The sum of $5, 892..00 upon motion made, <br />'seconded and unanimously adopted, was ordered deleted from the appropriation <br />for'the"Parks and Recreation Department., There was a discussion between the <br />members of the Board and Dr. Covington, Superintendent Brinson and Education <br />Board member Robert Dalrymple, about various 'items of the budget pertaining <br />
