BK 00026 PG-0562 <br />LET COUNTY <br />t p <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />BUDGET WORK SESSION <br />OF THE <br />LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />106 HILLCREST DRIVE <br />SANFORD, NORTH CAROLINA 27330 <br />JUNE 2, 2014 <br />The budget work session of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, State of North <br />Carolina, convened at 1 p.m. in the Gordon Wicker Conference Room, First Floor, Lee County <br />Government Center, 106 Hillcrest Drive, Sanford, North Carolina, on said date. Commissioners <br />present for the meeting were Dr. Ricky D. Frazier, Charles T. Parks, Robert T. Reives, Kirk D. Smith, <br />and James K. Womack. Commissioner's Amy M. Dalrymple and Dr. Andre Knecht were absent from <br />the meeting. Staff in attendance included County Manager John Crumpton, Assistant County <br />Manager /Finance Director Lisa Minter, County Attorney Kerry Schmid, Management Fellow Michael <br />James, and Clerk to the Board Gaynell Lee. <br />Chairman Parks called the budget work session to order. <br />Commissioner Smith delivered the invocation. <br />The pledge of allegiance was recited. <br />The first item on the agenda was discussion with the Sheriff's Department in reference to their <br />FY 2014 -15 budget requests. No one from that department was present for the work session. No <br />action was taken. <br />Commissioners met with Social Services Director Brenda Potts to discuss her FY 2014 -15 <br />budget requests. Revenue line items were discussed in length and the need for two new positions — a <br />foster care social worker and a social worker supervisor that had been requested in her budget and has <br />been recommended by the County Manager. No action was taken. <br />At this time Commissioners took a 10- minute recess. Upon returning from recess, with the <br />original Commissioners in attendance, the budget work session resumed. <br />Commissioners met with Health Director Terrell Jones to discuss his FY 2014 -15 budget <br />requests. Mr. Jones reviewed the Health Department's mission statement and the Health Assessment <br />that is completed every four years. The two positions he requested — a 60% Nurse and a Y2 time <br />Processing Clerk were discussed — of which neither position was recommended by the County <br />Manager. Mr. Jones also discussed the Children's Dental services that were recently discontinued by <br />the State. The dental hygienist position that had been located at the Health Department was <br />responsible for providing screenings to children in K -5 grades. No action taken. <br />
