I
Johnston - Lee - Harnett Community Action, Inc.
Our agency provides a variety of services for low- income people which keep them from
falling through the gaps. Most of our programs are for individuals and families below the
federal poverty guidelines. Which is the following: (1 person) $11,670; (2 people) $15,730; (3
people) $19,790; (4 people) $23,850; (5 people) $27,910 (6 people) $31,970 (7 people)
$36,030 and (8 people) $40,090. Weatherization is 200% of the poverty guidelines.
No other agency in Lee County provides a comprehensive Head Start/Early Head Start
Program. Our program serves 90 children in Lee County. These services assist pregnant
moms to five year olds. We work with the total family to make sure these children transition
Into Kindergarten well prepared. All families have a Family Serve Worker to help meet their
goals and objectives for the family. We work with the children socially, mentally and
physically. The program promotes positive outcomes for our children. The major goal for the
program is to promote school readiness.
Our STARS Program which stands for Successfully Transitioning to Achieve Real Self -
Sufficiency. This program assists individuals /families with comprehensive case management.
Results Oriented Management and Accountability (ROMA) is an integral part of the fabric of
our agency and nationwide. ROMA measure the outcome of all programs under the umbrella
of community action. We work with families to rise above the poverty level; get a better job
with benefits, find safe /secure affordable housing; increasing their education level as well as
Information and referrals. We partner with several programs in Lee County in order to keep
families from falling through the cracks.
Our Weatherization Program is an energy efficient program. We promote health and safety
for client's living conditions. Our program's major constituents are elderly, disabled and
children. Having an energy efficient house will allow families to have more income for food
and other necessary expenses. We have saved families an average of $344 annual for energy
savings. We provide carbon dioxide detectors; smoke detectors; heating systems repair or
replacement; replace refrigerators and hot water heaters.
Our homeless program partners with several agencies and takes referrals from DSS; Family
Promise; Haven of Lee County; the school system and various other agencies. We provide
three months rent, utility deposit, rental deposit; rental application fee; and three months
utility payment. Comprehensive case management is provided to keep these
Individual/families off the street.
Other agencies in the county provide Housing Counseling but we provide a comprehensive
housing counseling program. We do reverse mortgage which very few agencies in North
Carolina are certified to do.
