c)?01�-A <br />LEE COUNTY <br />3� rA _ <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE <br />LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REQUESTING THAT THE NORTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY INCLUDE LEE <br />COUNTY ON AN ACT TO ESTABLISH A MORATORIUM <br />ON FILING OF ACTIONS BY CERTAIN LOCAL BOARDS OF EDUCATION <br />CHALLENGING THE SUFFICIENCY OF LOCAL FUNDS <br />APPROPRIATED BY BOARDS OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS <br />WHEREAS, litigation between local boards of education and boards of county <br />commissioners in some counties in North Carolina has resulted in costly legal fees for both <br />parties; and, <br />WHEREAS, costly legal fees for such boards results in fewer available local funds for <br />public education and other purposes of county government; and, <br />WHEREAS, such litigation has led to prolonged legal battles resulting in unresolved <br />matters over several school years in some counties in North Carolina; and, <br />WHEREAS, mediation is generally a less expensive, more expedient, more efficient, <br />and more effective option than litigation; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Lee County Board of <br />Commissioners adopts this resolution in support of legislation that would provide a moratorium <br />on such litigation; <br />FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be transmitted to the <br />members of the North Carolina General Assembly representing Lee County so that they are <br />aware of Lee County's support for these issues. <br />ADOPTED THIS 2nd DAY OF JUNE 2014. <br />LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />By: , <br />Charles T.
