® BOOK ,PAU567® <br />Messrs. Jim Pate and Vernon Morton, of Williams & Works, <br />appeared with Mr.. Elwin Buchanan, Community Development Director, before <br />the Board. Mr. Buchanan reported on-the Community Development Program and <br />the application for the Block Grant Fund for the San-Lee. Recreational and Educational <br />Park.. After discussion by these gentlemen and the Board, Commissioner William <br />H. Cooper moved that,the Board authorize Williams., & Works to.make application <br />to apply for financial assistance from the State for'the proposed~water;and sewer <br />lines that the County contemplates the construction of. Commissioner John E. <br />Dotterer seconded the motion and upon a vote; it was unanimously adopted,. <br />Commissioner John E..Dotterer moved the adoption of the following <br />resolution: <br />WHEREAS: The purpose of Section 101 (a) <br />(1) (0) of the Public Works and Economic Development Act of <br />1965, as amended, is to provide, immediate useful work to <br />unemployed and underemployed persons, primarily through <br />construction - related jobs, and <br />WHEREAS:. Lee County, North Carolina, <br />has been designated as an area eligible to receive grant funds <br />under provisions of the aforementioned Act, and <br />WHEREAS: The old Sanford Water Pumping <br />Station, consisting of approximately 89 acres, together with <br />appurtenances, has been abandoned, and is available for devel- <br />opment as a recreational and educational park, thereby benefitting <br />the citizens of the area, and <br />WHEREAS: Financial assistance from the <br />Economic Development Administration is vital to the <br />undertaking and completion of this ,project. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT <br />The Governing Body of Lee County, hereinafter referred to as <br />The County, file an application with the Economic Development <br />Administration pursuant to the Public Works and Economic <br />Development Act of 1965, as amended, for a Grant in the amount <br />of two hundred fifty six thousand dollars ($256, 000. 00) to assist <br />in the development of said project, and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED <br />that the County hereby appriate thirty nine thousand dollars <br />($39, 000. 00) from. its general fund as local matching funds to <br />supplement the aforementioned requested EDA grant in order <br />to accomplish the project, and hereby authorizes the commit- <br />ment of in-kind contributions in the amount of twenty six <br />thousand dollars ($26, 000. 00), <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED <br />that the County shall have the right subject to approval by EDA <br />to adjust its cash contribution to reflect any increases it shall <br />incur in the furnishing of in-kind services and materials. <br />Commissioner Hal L. :Hancock seconded the motion and upon a vote <br />it was unanimously adopted. <br />3 <br />
