r BOOK S 7A5E~? <br />was referred to Mr. Elwin Buchanan,. Community Development Program <br />Director. <br />Commissioner Hal L. Hancock reported that Moore County was <br />willing to extend fire protection to portions of Lee-County,. if the Board of <br />Commissioners would pay for the service. There followed a general discussion <br />about fire protection in the County and Commissioner Hancock was asked to get <br />a map prepared to show the areas presently served by fire departments. <br />Mr. Jim Coates, Director of the Department of Social Services, <br />appeared before the Board and discussed the appointment of a committee to study <br />juvenile delinquency. He presented a written report setting forth his recommen- <br />dations which was discussed.. Commissioner John E. Dotterer moved that the <br />recommendations of Mr. Coates be accepted and approved and that Mr. Coates <br />serve as Chairman of this task forceand that the composition of the task force be <br />determined at the next meeting of the Board. The motion was seconded and upon <br />a vote was unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. Jim Coates, Director of Social Services,. appeared before the <br />Board and requested the transfer of $300. 00 from the item for contract services <br />to the item for maintenance within the Social Services Department budget for the <br />purpose of putting carpeting.in the hall of the older building used for offices by <br />that Department. Upon motion of Commissioner Dotterer, seconded.by Comm- <br />issioner Hancock, which motion was unanimously adopted, the budgetary transfer <br />was approved. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Dotterer,. duly, seconded by , <br />Commissioner Hancock, which motion was unanimously'.adopted, it was resolved <br />to appropriate the sum of $175. 00 from the unappropriated surplus in the General <br />Fund to the maintenance budget at the Courthouse for the purpose of purchasing a' <br />display counter for'$175. 00 from Galloway's Furniture'Shop. Upon a roll call <br />vote, Messrs. Cooper, Dotterer, Hancock, F. Wicker and G. Wicker all voted <br />for the resolution. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Dotterer,. seconded by Commissioner <br />Hancock, it was resolved to authorize the maintenance crews to install tile <br />flooring at the Health Center building. <br />The Chairman read to the members of the Board, a letter of <br />Mr. James Pate of Williams & Works, to the City of Sanford, requesting an <br />understanding concerning the storage facilities for fire protection at the Clawson <br />L. Williams Industrial Park. <br />Mr. Elwin Buchanan appeared before the Board in connection with <br />the public hearing concerning the Community Development Programs for the next <br />year.. Commissioner Dotterer moved that the public hearing be open and Comm- <br />issioner Franklin D. Wicker seconded the motion. Upon a vote, the motion was <br />unanaimously adopted and the Chairman opened the public hearing and recognized <br />Mr. Buchanan, the Community Development Director. Mr. Buchanan outlined the <br />Community Development Program for the benefit of the members of the Board and <br />all those present. Mrs. Annie Laurie Pomeranz and Mrs., Rachel Guthrie, direct- <br />ed inquiries to the Director concerning the proposed programs as, well as members <br />of the Board. After all members of the public had had an'opportunity to speak or <br />make inquiries of the Director, Commissioner Dotterer moved that the meeting be <br />closed. Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker seconded the motion and upon a vote <br />the motion was unanimously carried and the public hearing closed. <br />The copy of the written report of Lee County Agricultural Extension <br />Service was presented to each member of the Board. <br />
